West Virginia Gov. Jim Justice has appointed Ginny T. Lee to the Marshall University Board of Governors.<\/p>\n

Lee, who most recently was president and chief operating officer of the globally recognized, online education hub Khan Academy<\/a>, will serve out the unexpired term of Sandra Thomas who stepped down from the board earlier this month.<\/p>\n

Based in Palo Alto,\u00a0California, Lee is an active board member with organizations including Oportun\u00a0Financial Corporation, LaserShip, and Guideline, all of which are technology-driven operations in the banking,\u00a0logistics and personal finance sectors.<\/p>\n

\u201cI am so honored to have this opportunity to help Marshall University navigate the changing higher education landscape and scale its impact. \u00a0As a first generation and underserved student myself, I am living proof of how a quality education can truly make a difference in people\u2019s lives,” Lee said.<\/p>\n

Board of Governors Chairman Patrick Farrell said, \u201cGinny Lee\u2019s experience in the world of digital finance and online education gives our board a different perspective\u00a0as the university adapts to the evolving world of higher ed. Her insight into taking educational products to the masses through her leadership at the Khan Academy cannot\u00a0be underestimated.\u201d<\/p>\n

Marshall University President Brad D. Smith congratulated Lee on her selection and welcomed her to the board.<\/p>\n

\u201cGinny\u2019s reputation of integrity-driven transformative leadership is well documented and respected throughout the country. She will be a tremendous asset to Marshall,\u00a0and I am thrilled she has agreed to help guide our institution to the next level.\u201d<\/p>\n

Lee has worked at Prudential Bache Capital Funding, PepsiCo, and CSC Index.\u00a0 She also spent nearly two\u00a0decades at Intuit in senior operational and technical roles.<\/p>\n

Lee received her M.B.A. from Stanford University Graduate School of Business and completed her undergraduate work in business economics and organizational behavior and management from Brown University.<\/p>\n

She is expected to be sworn in at the next board meeting scheduled for October 19.<\/p>\n
