Marshall University\u2019s Board of Governors today approved a resolution allowing the second phase of construction for the new baseball stadium to proceed.<\/p>\n

The $3.4 million project includes the addition of two metal buildings that would house the visiting team locker room, batting cages, additional offices and storage.<\/p>\n

Additionally, the board approved the rebirth of the men\u2019s track indoor and outdoor program at the university.\u00a0 Competition is expected to begin this academic year in the Sun Belt Conference.<\/p>\n

In other athletics news, the board okayed a switch to the Missouri Valley Conference for the women\u2019s swimming and diving team because the Sun Belt Conference doesn\u2019t currently support the sport.\u00a0 If the Sun Belt adds women\u2019s swimming and diving in the future, the agreement allows for the possibility of an early exit.<\/p>\n

Other action during today\u2019s meeting included approval of a minor revision to a financial policy that governs salaries for classified and non-classified personnel, approval of revised mission weights for the West Virginia Higher Education Policy Commission\u2019s higher education funding formula and updates from\u00a0 finance, facilities and internal audit.<\/p>\n

Following a lengthy executive session, the board approved naming rights for the Athletics Department, the Lewis College of Business, the College of Health Professions and the College of Education and Professional Development.\u00a0 Announcement of the names will be made later.<\/p>\n

Four board members were ceremonially sworn in at today\u2019s meeting by Cabell County Chief Circuit Judge Greg Howard. They included James Smith, Kipp Bodnar, Ginny T. Lee and Isabella Griffiths.<\/p>\n

Marshall\u2019s next board meeting is scheduled for Dec. 14.<\/p>\n
