Edwards School of Medicine\u00a0found out today during the annual Match Day event where they will train for the next three to seven years. A total of 78 students from the Class of 2023 matched to residency programs, representing a 99% match rate for the class.<\/p>\n<p>Coordinated by the National Residency Matching Program (NRMP), the main residency match process uses a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/nam02.safelinks.protection.outlook.com\/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.nrmp.org%2Fintro-to-the-match%2Fhow-matching-algorithm-works%2F&amp;data=05%7C01%7CSTams%40marshall.edu%7Cf7fd9d6d2e5f4d314dde08db271bbc16%7C239ab2783bba4c78b41d8508a541e025%7C0%7C0%7C638146772338535922%7CUnknown%7CTWFpbGZsb3d8eyJWIjoiMC4wLjAwMDAiLCJQIjoiV2luMzIiLCJBTiI6Ik1haWwiLCJXVCI6Mn0%3D%7C3000%7C%7C%7C&amp;sdata=LhMTMeEkeDKK40l7VdE1s7A0cmYxAgbY%2B9iMxLF0um0%3D&amp;reserved=0\">computerized mathematical algorithm<\/a>\u00a0that pairs the preferences of applicants with the preferences of residency programs, resulting in a best result for graduating students.\u00a0Marshall students, along with medical students from around the world, all opened their match letters at the same date and time.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMatching into and completing a residency is the next step toward becoming a practicing physician,\u201d said Bobby Miller, M.D., interim dean at the Joan C. Edwards School of Medicine. \u201cWhere they receive their residency training shapes the course of their medical careers. The future of health care looks promising with this accomplished class and the impact they will have on patients and the profession.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>More than 50% matched into primary care residencies, which are identified in West Virginia as family medicine, internal medicine, internal medicine\/pediatrics, pediatrics and obstetrics\/gynecology.
