Marshall Health and St. Claire HealthCare (SCH) announced yesterday a new strategic partnership to improve access to advanced othopaedic and sports medicine care in eastern Kentucky.<\/p>\n

SCH\u2019s orthopaedic and sports medicine practice will work collaboratively with the Marshall Health team in Huntington, West Virginia, to create a state-of-the-art environment for clinical and surgical orthopaedic and sports medicine care in Morehead. The collaboration will expand the resources available to athletes and active individuals through SCH\u2019s sports medicine program and also creates the opportunity to conduct joint research studies that will contribute to the advancement of orthopaedic knowledge and training.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe made a pledge in our strategic plan to bring world-class care to the people of this region, and this relationship is just the beginning,\u201d said Donald H. Lloyd II, SCH president and CEO. \u201cThis is an opportunity for us to bring high-quality sports medicine to athletes that often don\u2019t have access to world-class programs and provides access to specialty and subspecialty orthopaedic care whether that is pediatric, trauma or even specialized hand surgery. It\u2019s what our patients deserve.\u201d<\/p>\n

Marshall Health\u2019s award-winning orthopaedic team provides services at clinical locations in Kentucky, Ohio and West Virginia. Marshall Orthopaedics is the exclusive provider of orthopedic sports medicine coverage to Marshall University Athletics and provides athletic training services to more than a dozen other universities, high schools and middle schools in the Tri-State area.<\/p>\n

Patients throughout the region will now have greater access to some of the latest technology in diagnostic and non-invasive testing, advanced surgical and nonsurgical treatment options, comprehensive rehabilitation and wellness programs, and more.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are going to take an already great institution and make it greater,\u201d said Ali Oliashirazi, M.D., professor and chair of orthopaedic surgery at the Marshall University Joan C. Edwards School of Medicine and an orthopaedic surgeon at Marshall Health. \u201cWith this partnership, Marshall Orthopaedics and St. Claire will be able to coordinate patient care more effectively, while building upon St. Claire\u2019s outstanding orthopaedic program.\u201d<\/p>\n
