{"id":26141,"date":"2024-01-23T16:26:43","date_gmt":"2024-01-23T21:26:43","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.marshall.edu\/news\/?p=26141"},"modified":"2024-01-23T16:26:43","modified_gmt":"2024-01-23T21:26:43","slug":"school-of-art-and-design-presents-annual-juried-exhibition","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.marshall.edu\/news\/2024\/01\/school-of-art-and-design-presents-annual-juried-exhibition\/","title":{"rendered":"School of Art and Design presents annual juried exhibition"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>Marshall University\u2019s School of Art &amp; Design is presenting its 13th Annual National Juried Exhibition, featuring works from 16 states, as well as regional works created by Marshall students and alumni.<\/p>\n<p>The exhibition was juried by multidisciplinary designer, artist and educator, Taekyeom Lee. Currently an assistant professor of graphic design at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, Lee\u2019s research explores unconventional materials in creating tangible graphic design, typography and other designed objects.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis exhibition is especially exciting because there is an unprecedented amount of student artists and regional artists included,\u201d said Courtney Chapman, gallery director and facilities coordinator with the School of Art &amp; Design.<\/p>\n<p>An unprecedented total of 200 artworks were entered to be juried by Lee. Of those, 31 pieces were selected, which included four students: Kaylee Esteves, Alexander Vance, Lauren Willis and Amy Pabst. Pabst also won the Juror\u2019s Choice Award, which is the top prize.<\/p>\n<p>The following awards were presented at a reception on Thursday, Jan. 11:<\/p>\n<p>\u00b7 Juror\u2019s Choice: Amy Pabst (student), The Best Medicine, Quilt<\/p>\n<p>\u00b7 First Place: June Huang, Digital Dysphoria, Video<\/p>\n<p>\u00b7 Second Place: Shalya Marsh, From the Penumbra Series (113), Hand built and 3D printed porcelain<\/p>\n<p>\u00b7 Third Place: Huey Lee, Figurative Painting: Teapot, Stoneware<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere is a little bit of everything for everyone,\u201d said Chapman. \u201cThis exhibition is exciting because, while there is a heavy emphasis on graphic design and typographic elements, all media is represented, including: painting, photography, ceramics, printmaking, collage and fibers.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The exhibition is open 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Mondays \u2013 Fridays and is free and open to the public. Marshall\u2019s Visual Arts Center is located at 927 3rd Avenue in Huntington.
