{"id":26152,"date":"2024-01-29T10:41:32","date_gmt":"2024-01-29T15:41:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.marshall.edu\/news\/?p=26152"},"modified":"2024-02-09T10:09:38","modified_gmt":"2024-02-09T15:09:38","slug":"marshall-university-celebrates-marshall-day-at-the-capitol-showcasing-innovation-research-and-economic-development","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.marshall.edu\/news\/2024\/01\/marshall-university-celebrates-marshall-day-at-the-capitol-showcasing-innovation-research-and-economic-development\/","title":{"rendered":"Marshall University celebrates Marshall Day at the Capitol showcasing innovation, research and economic development"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>Marshall University is proud to announce the 2024 Marshall Day at the Capitol celebration, an annual occasion that shines a spotlight on the institution&#8217;s multitude of programs in academics, health care, athletics and technological advancements.<br \/>\nOn Wednesday, Jan. 31, Marshall University representatives, including Marco, will bring their green and white spirit and interactive displays to the West Virginia State Capitol, offering a glimpse into the vibrant community that defines Marshall.<br \/>\nThe festivities will begin at 9 a.m. and continue until 1:30 p.m. University representatives will be on hand to greet visitors, engage with elected officials, and showcase the best of Marshall University. This event is organized by Marshall\u2019s offices of alumni relations and government relations, with special support from the Marshall University Joan C. Edwards School of Medicine, the Marshall Health Network and the Marshall University Research Corporation.<br \/>\nAdding to the excitement this year, the Huntington Regional Chamber of Commerce\u2019s Leadership Huntington, along with members of the Capitol and Greater Kanawha Alumni Chapters, will attend.<br \/>\n\u201cMarshall Day at the Capitol provides great insight for our legislators about Marshall\u2019s many successes over the past year,\u201d said Matt James, executive director of alumni relations. \u201cWe are fortunate to be joined by two of our alumni chapters this year who represent our state capitol region. It is imperative to showcase what we do on our campuses, but also the ways our alumni help support our state.\u201d<br \/>\nSara Payne Scarbro, associate vice president of government relations, said the long-standing tradition is a highlight for the university.<br \/>\n\u201cIt provides a wonderful opportunity to highlight Marshall\u2019s pillars of excellence and showcase our student leaders, dedicated staff and the many quality programs here at Marshall. The main goal is to share how Marshall is making a statewide difference \u2013 a collective impact.\u201d<br \/>\nPayne Scarbro said it\u2019s expected that both the House of Delegates and the State Senate will consider a resolution for Marshall Day.<br \/>\nMultiple units will be represented at the Capitol, bringing together faculty, staff, administrators, students and alumni.<br \/>\nCharlotte Weber, vice president of government relations, emphasized the collaborative nature of the event.<br \/>\n\u201cThis is a fantastic, collaborative event, and we could not do what we do without the support and involvement of everyone at Marshall University, &#8221; Weber said. &#8220;Our hats are off to the amazing people at Marshall University who work every day to make a difference in our students&#8217; lives and in the future prosperity of our state.\u201d<br \/>\nMarshall\u2019s Student Government Association, the President\u2019s Office, the Provost\u2019s Office, Alumni Affairs, the Marshall University Foundation, Marshall Health Network, the Joan C.
