{"id":26752,"date":"2024-05-21T10:53:09","date_gmt":"2024-05-21T14:53:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.marshall.edu\/news\/?p=26752"},"modified":"2024-05-21T13:29:30","modified_gmt":"2024-05-21T17:29:30","slug":"marshalls-career-education-awards-grant-to-six-students","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.marshall.edu\/news\/2024\/05\/marshalls-career-education-awards-grant-to-six-students\/","title":{"rendered":"Marshall&#8217;s Career Education awards grant to six students"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>Six Marshall University students have been awarded the HerdHired Career Experience Grant for summer 2024.<\/p>\n<p>The Office for Career Education established the grant for students hoping to supplement their classroom education with work-based learning experiences like internships, co-op programs, clinicals, research and other approved experiences.\u00a0 The awards were based on a competitive application process. The students were awarded a total of $3,000.\u00a0 The following students were selected:<\/p>\n<p>Donald Speas, a sports business major, will intern with Mountain View High School in Orem, Utah and assist with coaching duties for their track and cross-country teams.<br \/>\n\u201cMy current career goal is to become a professional or collegiate track and field coach, so this gives me a great opportunity to get experience working with elite athletes in a low-pressure environment. Additionally, I will be able to put some of my sports business skills to use when I help craft team schedules and budgets.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Amy Borowski, who is studying health science and accounting with a Spanish minor will be part of the Study Abroad Program through Marshall University.<br \/>\n\u201cI selected this program because of the abundant educational advantages, particularly in the realms of language and history. The opportunity to learn the Spanish language directly from a native speaker in Spain not only enriches my language skills but also provides me a fully immersive experience as I pursue my studies.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>William Blair, a statistics major, will intern with USAA in San Antonio, Texas.<br \/>\n\u201cThis hands-on experience will not only enrich my understanding of data engineering principles but also solidify my career path in the field.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Jada Stutts, a biomedical engineering student, will intern with LabCorp in Charleston, West Virginia.<br \/>\n\u201cI have participated in lab research since my freshman year.
