Edwards School of Medicine.<\/span><span data-ccp-parastyle=\"No Spacing\"> Advanced physician training programs range from one to five years for residencies to one to four <\/span><span data-ccp-parastyle=\"No Spacing\">additional<\/span><span data-ccp-parastyle=\"No Spacing\"> years beyond residency for fellowships. The hands-on experiences achieved through this intensive learning environment ensure trainees are prepared to enter private practice and\/or academic medicine.<\/span><\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:0,&quot;335559740&quot;:240}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<div>\n<p><span xml:lang=\"EN-US\" data-contrast=\"auto\"><span data-ccp-parastyle=\"No Spacing\">The new cohort of <\/span><span data-ccp-parastyle=\"No Spacing\">trainees<\/span> <span data-ccp-parastyle=\"No Spacing\">hails<\/span><span data-ccp-parastyle=\"No Spacing\"> from 6<\/span><span data-ccp-parastyle=\"No Spacing\">4<\/span><span data-ccp-parastyle=\"No Spacing\"> medical schools across 1<\/span><span data-ccp-parastyle=\"No Spacing\">9<\/span><span data-ccp-parastyle=\"No Spacing\"> states and <\/span><span data-ccp-parastyle=\"No Spacing\">2<\/span><span data-ccp-parastyle=\"No Spacing\">1<\/span><span data-ccp-parastyle=\"No Spacing\"> countries, including 3<\/span><span data-ccp-parastyle=\"No Spacing\">1<\/span><span data-ccp-parastyle=\"No Spacing\"> who are medical alumni from West Virginia\u2019s three medical schools.<\/span><\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:0,&quot;335559740&quot;:240}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p><span xml:lang=\"EN-US\" data-contrast=\"auto\"><span data-ccp-parastyle=\"No Spacing\">&#8220;We are thrilled to welcome our new residents and fellows to our training programs,&#8221; said Paulette S.<\/span><span data-ccp-parastyle=\"No Spacing\"> Wehner, M.D., vice dean of graduate medical education at the school. &#8220;This marks an exciting beginning of the next chapter in their medical training. Upon complet<\/span><span data-ccp-parastyle=\"No Spacing\">ion of<\/span><span data-ccp-parastyle=\"No Spacing\"> their programs at Marshall University, they will be fully autonomous physicians, ready to serve our unique patient population in Appalachia or <\/span><span data-ccp-parastyle=\"No Spacing\">carry<\/span><span data-ccp-parastyle=\"No Spacing\"> the Marshall <\/span><span data-ccp-parastyle=\"No Spacing\">flag<\/span><span data-ccp-parastyle=\"No Spacing\"> with them wherever they practice.&#8221;<\/span><\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:0,&quot;335559740&quot;:240}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p><span xml:lang=\"EN-US\" data-contrast=\"auto\"><span data-ccp-parastyle=\"No Spacing\">Among the new trainees are three rural <\/span><span data-ccp-parastyle=\"No Spacing\">psychiatry<\/span><span data-ccp-parastyle=\"No Spacing\"> resident<\/span><span data-ccp-parastyle=\"No Spacing\">s<\/span> <span data-ccp-parastyle=\"No Spacing\">participating<\/span><span data-ccp-parastyle=\"No Spacing\"> in <\/span><span data-ccp-parastyle=\"No Spacing\">a new four-year residency program. <\/span><span data-ccp-parastyle=\"No Spacing\">Under the guidance of Drs.<\/span><span data-ccp-parastyle=\"No Spacing\"> Suzanne Holroyd and Justin Gandee, residents will spend at least two years at Rivers Health in Point Pleasant, West Virginia, providing mental health services to Mason County and other surrounding communities through telehealth and in-person care and treatment beginning in 2025.<\/span><span data-ccp-parastyle=\"No Spacing\">\u00a0<\/span><\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:0,&quot;335559740&quot;:240}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p><span xml:lang=\"EN-US\" data-contrast=\"auto\"><span data-ccp-parastyle=\"No Spacing\">With <\/span><span data-ccp-parastyle=\"No Spacing\">the addition of this year\u2019s resident physicians and fellows<\/span><span data-ccp-parastyle=\"No Spacing\">, the Joan C.
