{"id":26941,"date":"2024-07-11T16:40:20","date_gmt":"2024-07-11T20:40:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.marshall.edu\/news\/?p=26941"},"modified":"2024-07-11T16:40:20","modified_gmt":"2024-07-11T20:40:20","slug":"eng-named-interim-dean-of-the-lewis-college-of-business","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.marshall.edu\/news\/2024\/07\/eng-named-interim-dean-of-the-lewis-college-of-business\/","title":{"rendered":"Eng named interim dean of the Lewis College of Business"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>Dr. Ben Eng, an associate professor of Marketing and Entrepreneurship and executive director of the iCenter, the university\u2019s Center for Entrepreneurship and Business Innovation, has been named interim dean of Marshall\u2019s Lewis College of Business.<\/p>\n<p>He takes on the new role July 12. Dean Don Capener has decided to step down from the position to increase flexibility and grow his strategy consulting activity. Capener also will join the faculty in the Lewis College of Business.<\/p>\n<p>The university will launch a national search during the 2024-25 academic year to find a permanent replacement.<\/p>\n<p>Eng joined the Marshall University faculty in 2014, and along with teaching and directing the iCenter has also been serving as assistant provost for academic engagement and innovation since 2022. He has a Ph.D. in Business Administration from Southern Illinois University, an MBA from Marshall University, and a Bachelor of Arts from James Madison University. Eng received the Pickens-Queen Teacher Award, which is Marshall University\u2019s highest teaching award for newer faculty members in 2018 and the following year received the Robert P. Alexander Mentorship Award, presented to faculty in the College of Business for excellence in mentoring students.<\/p>\n<p>Prior to working in academia, Eng worked in the entertainment industry for United Talent Agency, a leading Hollywood talent agency.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is an honor and privilege to be named interim dean of the Lewis College of Business, where I have deep roots as a native Huntingtonian, proud alumnus, and faculty member,\u201d Eng said. \u201cIt&#8217;s an exciting time at Marshall and in our community. I look forward to working with our dedicated faculty, staff, students and advisory board to discover new exciting ways to contribute to the university&#8217;s strategic plan \u2014 Marshall for All, Marshall Forever \u2014 and to further the college\u2019s mission and vision of creating and spreading business knowledge that brings prosperity to our students, West Virginia, and beyond.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Eng \u201chas made exceptional contributions to teaching, research and service as an associate professor of Marketing and Entrepreneurship,\u201d said Marshall Provost Avinandan \u201cAvi\u201d Mukherjee. \u201cDr. Eng&#8217;s commitment to academic excellence has earned him prestigious teaching awards and recognition for his influential work in design thinking.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn addition, Dr. Eng has demonstrated strong leadership in his role as the founding executive director of the iCenter since 2018, highlighting his dedication to fostering innovation and entrepreneurship within our academic community.
