Edwards School of Medicine, <\/span><span data-ccp-parastyle=\"No Spacing\">has received<\/span><span data-ccp-parastyle=\"No Spacing\"> a <\/span><span data-ccp-parastyle=\"No Spacing\">T<\/span><span data-ccp-parastyle=\"No Spacing\">ransformational <\/span><span data-ccp-parastyle=\"No Spacing\">P<\/span><span data-ccp-parastyle=\"No Spacing\">roject <\/span><span data-ccp-parastyle=\"No Spacing\">Award<\/span><span data-ccp-parastyle=\"No Spacing\"> from th<\/span><span data-ccp-parastyle=\"No Spacing\">e American Heart Association <\/span><span data-ccp-parastyle=\"No Spacing\">to evaluate<\/span><span data-ccp-parastyle=\"No Spacing\"> the potential effects of angiotensin-converting enzyme 2 (ACE2) <\/span><span data-ccp-parastyle=\"No Spacing\">modified<\/span><span data-ccp-parastyle=\"No Spacing\"> exosomes in hypertension-related ischemic stroke.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><span xml:lang=\"EN-US\" data-contrast=\"auto\"><span data-ccp-parastyle=\"No Spacing\">ACE2 is a protein that regulates blood pressure by breaking down angiotensin II, a peptide that narrows blood vessels.<\/span><span data-ccp-parastyle=\"No Spacing\"> By delivering ACE2, these exosomes can help reduce blood pressure by converting angiotensin II into its less harmful form.<\/span> <span data-ccp-parastyle=\"No Spacing\">Wang\u2019s<\/span><span data-ccp-parastyle=\"No Spacing\"> new three-year $300,000 grant (24TPA1291189) will <\/span><span data-ccp-parastyle=\"No Spacing\">utilize<\/span><span data-ccp-parastyle=\"No Spacing\"> a transgenic mouse model with hypertension to test the effects of these modified exosomes<\/span><span data-ccp-parastyle=\"No Spacing\">.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span xml:lang=\"EN-US\" data-contrast=\"auto\">&#8220;The rising incidence of stroke among the aging and hypertensive population underscores the pressing need for innovative ischemic stroke therapies, especially for elderly individuals,\u201d said Wang, principal investigator on the study. \u201cThis study introduces ACE2-modified exosomes as a promising novel therapeutic avenue for ischemic stroke in the context of aging and hypertension.
