Edwards School of Medicine<\/span><\/span><\/a><span xml:lang=\"EN-US\" data-contrast=\"auto\"><span data-ccp-parastyle=\"No Spacing\"> has been awarded a five-year, $21 million grant from the National Institutes of Health (NIH) to continue the West Virginia <\/span><span data-ccp-parastyle=\"No Spacing\">IDeA<\/span><span data-ccp-parastyle=\"No Spacing\"> Network of Biomedical Research Excellence (WV-INBRE), now entering its 24th year.<\/span><\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:0,&quot;335559740&quot;:240}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<div>\n<p><span xml:lang=\"EN-US\" data-contrast=\"auto\"><span data-ccp-parastyle=\"No Spacing\">Since its <\/span><span data-ccp-parastyle=\"No Spacing\">inception<\/span><span data-ccp-parastyle=\"No Spacing\">, WV-INBRE has secured <\/span><span data-ccp-parastyle=\"No Spacing\">more than <\/span><span data-ccp-parastyle=\"No Spacing\">$92 million in funding for West Virginia, significantly strengthening the state&#8217;s biomedical research infrastructure and capacity. Marshall University serves as the lead institution, collaborating with West Virginia University and 14 other colleges and universities across the state to implement this initiative.<\/span><\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:0,&quot;335559740&quot;:240}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p><span xml:lang=\"EN-US\" data-contrast=\"auto\"><span data-ccp-parastyle=\"No Spacing\">\u201cAdvancing biomedical research is essential for fostering innovation in health care and enhancing the health outcomes of our communities,\u201d said David Gozal, M.D., M.B.A., Ph.D. (Hon), vice president of health affairs and dean of the Joan C. Edwards School of Medicine at Marshall University. \u201c<\/span><span data-ccp-parastyle=\"No Spacing\">A<\/span><span data-ccp-parastyle=\"No Spacing\"> robust research infrastructure allows us to develop solutions to complex diseases,<\/span><span data-ccp-parastyle=\"No Spacing\"> attract and<\/span><span data-ccp-parastyle=\"No Spacing\"> train the next generation of scientists and physicians and foster collaboration across institutions. INBRE is designed to bolster biomedical research by supporting faculty, expanding research <\/span><span data-ccp-parastyle=\"No Spacing\">opportunities<\/span><span data-ccp-parastyle=\"No Spacing\"> and providing critical resources for undergraduate students in participating states. The program fosters a collaborative research network, linking research-intensive institutions with primarily undergraduate institutions to enhance statewide biomedical research infrastructure.<\/span><\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:0,&quot;335559740&quot;:240}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p><span xml:lang=\"EN-US\" data-contrast=\"auto\"><span data-ccp-parastyle=\"No Spacing\">\u201cWV-INBRE has brought about a transformative shift in West Virginia&#8217;s undergraduate institutions <\/span><span data-ccp-parastyle=\"No Spacing\">in which<\/span><span data-ccp-parastyle=\"No Spacing\"> biomedical research is now an integral part of the academic culture,\u201d said Gary O. Rankin, Ph.D., vice dean of basic sciences at <\/span><span data-ccp-parastyle=\"No Spacing\">the Joan C.
