{"id":27651,"date":"2025-01-09T15:02:41","date_gmt":"2025-01-09T20:02:41","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.marshall.edu\/news\/?p=27651"},"modified":"2025-01-09T15:04:16","modified_gmt":"2025-01-09T20:04:16","slug":"marshall-school-of-pharmacy-faculty-member-selected-for-prestigious-mentorship-program","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.marshall.edu\/news\/2025\/01\/marshall-school-of-pharmacy-faculty-member-selected-for-prestigious-mentorship-program\/","title":{"rendered":"Marshall School of Pharmacy faculty member selected for prestigious mentorship program"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>Dr. Thomas Pile, a clinical assistant professor at the Marshall University School of Pharmacy, has been chosen as one of five participants for the National Association of Chain Drug Stores (NACDS) Foundation\u2019s 2024-2025 Faculty Scholars Program.<\/p>\n<p>The 18-month research mentorship program connects faculty members with seasoned research experts, transforming research ideas into published manuscripts through NACDS Foundation starter grants.<\/p>\n<p>Pile, who has been with Marshall since 2022, and serves as the school\u2019s associate director of experiential learning, will investigate the relationship between and the impact of continuous glucose monitors and oral diabetes medication compliance among people living with diabetes.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I am honored to have been selected to take part in this research program,\u201d Pile said. \u201cThis is an incredible opportunity to collaborate with nationally recognized pharmacy researchers from universities across the country. My research will focus on diabetes, a chronic condition that significantly impacts the health and well-being of patients in West Virginia and the Appalachian region. Addressing this critical health care need is essential for improving outcomes and providing better care for our communities.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Eric Blough, dean of the school of pharmacy, said Pile\u2019s research is particularly important given it deals with such an important health concern to the region.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDr. Pile\u2019s selection for the NACDS Foundation Faculty Scholars Program is a testament to his dedication and the promise his research holds,\u201d Blough said. \u201cGiven the high prevalence of diabetes in West Virginia and across Appalachia, exploring how continuous glucose monitors can bolster oral medication adherence is vital. We\u2019re excited to see how Dr. Pile\u2019s findings will advance patient care and improve health outcomes in our community.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The 2024-2025 Faculty Scholars will participate in frequent mentor meetings, small cohort working groups and an online lecture series.
