Marshall University hosted its second annual Excellence in Grantsmanship Celebration, recognizing the institution\u2019s continued growth in securing external funding for groundbreaking research initiatives. The event, sponsored by the Marshall University Research Corporation (MURC), the President\u2019s Office, and the Office of Academic Affairs brought together more than 100 staff, faculty and stakeholders to honor and celebrate the outstanding achievements in grantsmanship at the university.<\/p>\n

The program featured remarks from Dr. Suzanne Strait, associate vice president for research development, Dr. Avi Mukherjee, provost and senior vice president for academic affairs and President Brad D. Smith, underscoring the university\u2019s commitment to fostering a robust grant ecosystem that aligns with Marshall\u2019s Pillars of Excellence<\/a>.<\/p>\n

A key highlight of the event was the presentation of Marshall University\u2019s 2023-2024 Award Data, which showcased a significant increase in research funding:<\/p>\n

\u00b7 $73.33 million in total awarded funds \u2013 an 8.22% increase from the previous year.<\/p>\n

\u00b7 291 awarded grants \u2013 marking a 4.3% rise.<\/p>\n

\u00b7 131 principal investigators (PIs) leading funded projects \u2013 reflecting a 13.9% increase.<\/p>\n

These milestones demonstrate Marshall\u2019s continued momentum in securing grant funding and advancing impactful projects that contribute to the university\u2019s reputation as a hub for innovation and academic excellence.<\/p>\n

“This growth in research funding is a testament to the hard work and dedication of our faculty, staff, and research teams,” Strait said. “Marshall University is committed to supporting groundbreaking research that not only enhances learning but also contributes to solving real-world challenges.”<\/p>\n

Dr. John Maher, vice president for research, expressed his gratitude to the dedicated staff of the MURC for their hard work and unwavering support.<\/p>\n

“The success we celebrate today is a testament to the dedication and expertise of our MURC staff,\u201d Maher said. \u201cTheir efforts have been instrumental in securing and managing the grants that drive our research forward.<\/p>\n

“As Marshall University continues to expand its grantsmanship efforts, the institution remains committed to increasing external funding opportunities, fostering interdisciplinary collaboration,<\/p>\n

and strengthening its role as a leader in grant-funded innovation and research,” Maher said.<\/p>\n
