Topics will include:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul style=\"margin-bottom: 0in\">\n<li style=\"margin-right: 0in;font-size: 12pt;font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif;margin-left: 0px\"><span style=\"font-family: Tahoma, sans-serif\">Statutory requirements for obtaining a patent<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"margin-right: 0in;font-size: 12pt;font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif;margin-left: 0px\"><span style=\"font-family: Tahoma, sans-serif\">University ownership of inventions<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"margin-right: 0in;font-size: 12pt;font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif;margin-left: 0px\"><span style=\"font-family: Tahoma, sans-serif\">Differences between patent applications and technical publications<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"margin-right: 0in;font-size: 12pt;font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif;margin-left: 0px\"><span style=\"font-family: Tahoma, sans-serif\">Distinctions between inventorship and authorship<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"margin-right: 0in;font-size: 12pt;font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif;margin-left: 0px\"><span style=\"font-family: Tahoma, sans-serif\">Considerations for preserving patent rights in an academic setting<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"margin-right: 0in;font-size: 12pt;font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif;margin-left: 0px\"><span style=\"font-family: Tahoma, sans-serif\">How to determine when an invention is ready for patenting.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"margin-right: 0in;margin-left: 0in;font-size: 12pt;font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif\"><span style=\"font-family: Tahoma, sans-serif\">The seminar will be led by attorney Terry Wright of Stites &amp; Harbison PLLC in Louisville, Kentucky, and Amy Melton, director of the Marshall University Technology Transfer Office. <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-right: 0in;margin-left: 0in;font-size: 12pt;font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif\"><span style=\"font-family: Tahoma, sans-serif\">Wright has extensive experience advising clients ranging from small businesses to multinational corporations and regularly develops intellectual property protection plans for a variety of industries, including consumer goods, medical devices and life sciences technologies. With a background in life sciences and academic research, he also counsels companies and university technology transfer offices on patent-based intellectual property strategies.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin: 0in;font-size: 12pt;font-family: Calibri, sans-serif\"><span style=\"font-family: Tahoma, sans-serif\">The seminar is free and open to the public, but registration is required.
