{"id":27991,"date":"2025-04-08T10:19:44","date_gmt":"2025-04-08T14:19:44","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.marshall.edu\/news\/?p=27991"},"modified":"2025-04-08T11:20:32","modified_gmt":"2025-04-08T15:20:32","slug":"marshall-announces-spring-commencement-speaker-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.marshall.edu\/news\/2025\/04\/marshall-announces-spring-commencement-speaker-2\/","title":{"rendered":"Marshall announces spring commencement speaker"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>Marshall University is proud to announce that long-time broadcast journalist, author and philanthropist Soledad O\u2019Brien will deliver the university\u2019s keynote address for the 2025 graduation ceremonies scheduled for 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. Saturday, May 10, at the Marshall Health Network Arena.<\/p>\n<p>O\u2019Brien is widely recognized for her work with CNN, NBC, HBO and PBS, among other prestigious entities. She has reported on major events, including natural disasters, political upheavals and community movements, earning multiple awards for her compelling storytelling. Her work has recently included highlighting Marshall University\u2019s Marshall For All: Debt-Free program on her acclaimed series, Matter of Fact, and she has appeared at Huntington\u2019s Women Warriors Summit, founded by Marshall First Lady Alys Smith. O\u2019Brien\u2019s philanthropic efforts encompass initiatives with both The Starfish Foundation and The PowHERful Foundation.<\/p>\n<p>O\u2019Brien will deliver remarks to Marshall\u2019s 2025 graduates, and she will be presented with an honorary degree by the university.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is an honor to have Soledad O\u2019Brien joining us for commencement this year,\u201d said Marshall University President Brad D. Smith. \u201cShe has an exceptional way of connecting with audiences and possesses a genuine and inspired understanding of our campus and our community. I know we will be entertained, educated and empowered by her remarks. We are very grateful that she accepted our invitation.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Approximately 1,500 students are expected to graduate at two separate ceremonies.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The schedule is as follows:<\/p>\n<p><strong>9:00 a.m. ceremony<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Lewis College of Business undergraduate and graduate students<\/p>\n<p>Doctor of Nursing Anesthesia candidates<\/p>\n<p>Doctor of Business Administration candidates<\/p>\n<p>College of Education &amp; Professional Development undergraduate and graduate students<\/p>\n<p>Doctor of Education candidates<\/p>\n<p>College of Science undergraduate and graduate students<\/p>\n<p>Physician\u2019s Assistant candidates<\/p>\n<p>College of Engineering and Computer Sciences undergraduate and graduate students<\/p>\n<p>Division of Aviation undergraduate students<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>2:00 p.m. ceremony<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>College of Health Professions undergraduate and graduate students<\/p>\n<p>Doctor of Physical Therapy candidates<\/p>\n<p>Doctor of Nursing Practice candidates<\/p>\n<p>School of Pharmacy Graduate Program candidates<\/p>\n<p>Doctor of Pharmacy candidates<\/p>\n<p>College of Liberal Arts undergraduate and graduate students<\/p>\n<p>College of Arts and Media undergraduate and graduate students<\/p>\n<p>Regents Bachelor of Arts undergraduate students<\/p>\n<p>The Marshall Health Network Arena has security procedures in place including metal detector screening and visual bag inspections. It is a clear bag only venue.
