{"id":28487,"date":"2025-08-19T11:17:23","date_gmt":"2025-08-19T15:17:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.marshall.edu\/news\/?p=28487"},"modified":"2025-08-19T13:47:00","modified_gmt":"2025-08-19T17:47:00","slug":"weisberg-engineering-complex-at-marshall-university-celebrates-a-decade-of-innovation","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.marshall.edu\/news\/2025\/08\/weisberg-engineering-complex-at-marshall-university-celebrates-a-decade-of-innovation\/","title":{"rendered":"Weisberg Engineering Complex at Marshall University celebrates a decade of innovation"},"content":{"rendered":"<div><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Marshall University will celebrate a major milestone at 4 p.m. Monday, Aug. 25, marking the 10th anniversary of the Arthur Weisberg Family Applied Engineering Complex (WAEC.)<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Named after Arthur Weisberg, a regional business leader and major benefactor of Marshall who passed away in 2012, the 152,000 square foot facility is located on Third Avenue next to to the Robert C. Byrd Biotechnology Center. All undergraduate and graduate engineering and computer sciences programs are housed within the WAEC, providing students with a modern, collaborative environment for learning and innovation. <\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">The public is invited to join members of the Weisberg family, along with Marshall University President Brad D. Smith and engineering faculty and staff, for the special event which will be held at in the atrium of the WAEC.\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u201cThe addition of this wonderful facility 10 years ago has been a fantastic boon to the College of Engineering and Computer Sciences, said David Dampier, dean of the College of Engineering and Computer Sciences.\u202f\u201cThe classrooms, laboratories and offices available in the WAEC have enabled a massive growth in enrollment, retention and graduation rates, as well as a more than 10-fold increase in annual research expenditures by the college.\u202f If it were not for the Weisberg family and their generosity and support, the college would never have been where we are today and looking at tremendous growth continuing into the foreseeable future.\u201d<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">The WAEC was the first building on the Huntington campus to have <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.usgbc.org\/leed\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">LEED certification<\/span><\/a><span data-contrast=\"auto\">, an important designation recognizing green buildings, providing environmental and social benefits.
