{"id":28543,"date":"2025-09-10T12:18:45","date_gmt":"2025-09-10T16:18:45","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.marshall.edu\/news\/?p=28543"},"modified":"2025-09-10T14:02:31","modified_gmt":"2025-09-10T18:02:31","slug":"marshall-cyber-programs-see-record-growth","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.marshall.edu\/news\/2025\/09\/marshall-cyber-programs-see-record-growth\/","title":{"rendered":"Marshall cyber programs see record growth"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>Marshall University\u2019s cyber programs are projecting a significant enrollment increase this fall.<\/p>\n<p>The Bachelor of Science in cyber forensics and security program has seen a more than 100 student enrollment increase since the fall 2020 semester.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe growth in our cybersecurity program shows that students recognize both the opportunity and responsibility of this field,\u201d said Alexandria Donathan, executive director of the Marshall University Institute for Cyber Security. \u201cMarshall University is proud to be preparing the next generation of cyber defenders.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The undergraduate program is the only program of its kind in West Virginia and is validated by the National Centers of Academic Excellence in Cybersecurity.<\/p>\n<p>The master&#8217;s in cybersecurity program has seen a more than 40 student enrollment increase since the fall 2019 semester and is now available fully online.<\/p>\n<p>Students in the master\u2019s program can pursue one of three concentration areas: Network Security, Application Security or Security Management.<\/p>\n<p>Both programs have grown steadily, proving a great start for foundation for the building the Institute for Cyber Security.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur students don\u2019t just learn theory \u2014 they engage in real-world challenges that build the skills employers need right now,\u201d said John Sammons, professor and associate director, Marshall University Institute for Cyber Security. \u201cIt\u2019s an exciting time to be part of cybersecurity at Marshall.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, the median pay for an information security analyst in 2024 was $124,910.<\/p>\n<p>The Cyber Training Center (CTC) at Marshall University gives students real-world experience in cyber security through bootcamps, the ability to complete student projects and more.<\/p>\n<p>The CTC supports students with two servers, 25 PC workstations, and a mini\u2013Security Operations Center (SOC), which consist of a large monitor displaying network operations and three analyst workstations.<\/p>\n<p>For more information about the Institute of Cyber Security at Marshall, visit <a href=\"http:\/\/www.marshall.edu\/cyber\">www.marshall.edu\/cyber\/<\/a>.<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Marshall University\u2019s cyber programs are projecting a significant enrollment increase this fall.
