{"id":28621,"date":"2025-09-24T10:56:00","date_gmt":"2025-09-24T14:56:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.marshall.edu\/news\/?p=28621"},"modified":"2025-09-24T12:43:30","modified_gmt":"2025-09-24T16:43:30","slug":"marshall-university-hosts-stronger-together-walk-for-recovery","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.marshall.edu\/news\/2025\/09\/marshall-university-hosts-stronger-together-walk-for-recovery\/","title":{"rendered":"Marshall University to host Stronger Together Walk for Recovery"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>Marshall University\u2019s Collegiate Recovery Community, in partnership with the West Virginia Collegiate Recovery Network, a project of the Marshall University Center of Excellence for Recovery, will host the Stronger Together Walk for Recovery at 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Monday, Sept. 29, 2025 at the Marshall University Memorial Student Center Plaza.\u00a0 \u00a0The walk will begin at 1 p.m. and round out the event.<\/p>\n<p>The event will feature inspiring speakers, resource tables from campus and community organizations and a symbolic walk around campus demonstrating that no one has to walk the path of recovery alone. Participants are encouraged to wear purple, the official color of National Recovery Month, to show support.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cStudents should never have to choose between their recovery and their education,\u201d said Jeremy Bailey, a student and peer recovery support specialist. \u201cBoth are possible, and Marshall University is committed to walking that journey with them.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Research supports the impact of campus recovery programs. A 2025 study by Noel Vest, a <span data-olk-copy-source=\"MessageBody\">Boston University School of Public Health researcher,<\/span> and colleagues noted that when students in recovery are supported, they contribute to a healthier campus environment, shifting the narrative around substance use and fostering cultures of well-being.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cRecovery is not about becoming someone new; it\u2019s about remembering who you were before the world told you who you couldn\u2019t be,\u201d Marshall University President Brad D. Smith said.<\/p>\n<p>The public is invited to attend.
