Sessions will be held from 6 to 7 p.m. Thursdays, beginning Oct. 16 at the Marshall University Psychology Clinic, located in Room 449 of Harris Hall.<\/p>\n<p>Perfectionism often goes beyond simply wanting to do well. It involves setting unrealistically high standards, being overly self-critical, and feeling that one\u2019s worth depends on flawless achievement. While the desire to excel can be motivating, perfectionism can lead to stress, anxiety, and burnout \u2014 especially for college students balancing academics, relationships and life transitions.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCollege can bring on added pressure for students who already identify as perfectionists,\u201d said Katelyn Smallman, one of the group facilitators. \u201cThis group will help you learn tools to combat perfectionism and take with you for the rest of your college career.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Mallory Stanley is the co-facilitator for the group.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cJoining a group is a great way to find others with similar experiences and get exposure to different viewpoints,\u201d she said. \u201cMany students discover they\u2019re not alone in these struggles.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Participants will learn evidence-based strategies to manage self-criticism, develop healthier perspectives on success and failure, and practice self-kindness \u2014 skills that can foster resilience and balance throughout college and beyond.<\/p>\n<p>The group is free to attend and open to all college students.<\/p>\n<p>To register or learn more, contact Katelyn Smallman at smallman2@marshall.edu or Mallory Stanley at stanleyma@marshall.edu, or call the Marshall University Psychology Clinic at 304-696-2772.<\/p><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Marshall University Psychology Clinic is offering a free, eight-week therapy group this fall to support college students struggling with perfectionism \u2014 a common challenge that can impact both academic performance and personal well-being.
