{"id":28922,"date":"2025-11-11T16:27:19","date_gmt":"2025-11-11T21:27:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.marshall.edu\/news\/?p=28922"},"modified":"2025-11-12T11:14:49","modified_gmt":"2025-11-12T16:14:49","slug":"marshall-university-to-host-reimagining-the-school-mental-health-workforce-conference-in-charleston","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.marshall.edu\/news\/2025\/11\/marshall-university-to-host-reimagining-the-school-mental-health-workforce-conference-in-charleston\/","title":{"rendered":"Marshall to host &#8216;Reimagining the School Mental Health Workforce&#8217; conference in Charleston"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>The Marshall University Center of Excellence for Recovery, part of the Marshall University Research Corporation, will host \u201cReimagining the School Mental Health Workforce: A One-Day Conference\u201d on Friday, Nov. 21, 2025, at the Embassy Suites by Hilton in Charleston, West Virginia.<\/p>\n<p>This one-day event will bring together educators, school mental health professionals and community leaders from across the state to share innovative, practical strategies for strengthening and sustaining the school mental health workforce in West Virginia.<\/p>\n<p>The conference will open with remarks from West Virginia State Superintendent Michele Blatt, followed by a keynote panel discussion, \u201cIn This Together: A Collaborative Panel on Strengthening the School Mental Health Workforce,\u201d moderated by Amy Saunders, associate vice president of the Marshall University Research Corporation and managing director of the Center of Excellence for Recovery.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThrough strategic collaboration and the application of Design for Delight principles, we hope to better address the behavioral health workforce needs in our schools with innovative solutions that center on student well-being and long-term success,\u201d Saunders said.<\/p>\n<p>One of the day\u2019s featured sessions, \u201cDesign for Delight: Sustaining Those Who Support,\u201d will be led by Maddy Branham and Jason Gibbs of Marshall University\u2019s iCenter. This interactive training adapts the iCenter\u2019s design thinking approach \u2014 typically used in business and innovation contexts \u2014 to help participants creatively address challenges related to workforce recruitment, support and retention in school mental health.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDesign thinking empowers people to turn real-world challenges into opportunities for meaningful change,\u201d said Maddy Branham, assistant director of the iCenter. \u201cIt starts with empathy \u2014 truly understanding the people and problems \u2014 and leads to creative, sustainable solutions.
