{"id":29033,"date":"2025-12-18T11:48:34","date_gmt":"2025-12-18T16:48:34","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.marshall.edu\/news\/?p=29033"},"modified":"2025-12-18T12:52:30","modified_gmt":"2025-12-18T17:52:30","slug":"marshall-university-announces-new-public-mural-project-at-smith-music-hall","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.marshall.edu\/news\/2025\/12\/marshall-university-announces-new-public-mural-project-at-smith-music-hall\/","title":{"rendered":"Marshall University announces new public mural project at Smith Music Hall"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>Funding has been secured, in part through the National Endowment for the Arts, for a new public mural to be installed on the west face of Evelyn Holbrook Smith Music Hall at Marshall University.<\/p>\n<p>The project is a collaborative effort involving the School of Art &amp; Design, the College of Arts &amp; Media, the Marshall Public Art Committee, and Marshall Marketing &amp; Communications, which will oversee the public engagement process.<\/p>\n<p>Renowned muralist Nichole Westfall, the 2024 West Virginia Governor\u2019s Artist of the Year, will lead the project. Westfall is known for her bold, whimsical, Appalachian-inspired style and artwork that encourages communities to let \u201cjoy thrive.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The mural will highlight the transformative impact of the arts and public art, celebrate Marshall evolution from a Normal School to a modern university and reflect the institution\u2019s Marshall for All initiative as well as its upcoming 2037 Bicentennial.<\/p>\n<p>Installation of the mural is anticipated for late April or early May 2026.<\/p>\n<p>Public comment on the project is open through February 6, 2026 at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.marshall.edu\/mural\/\">https:\/\/www.marshall.edu\/mural\/<\/a><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Funding has been secured, in part through the National Endowment for the Arts, for a new public mural to be installed on the west face of Evelyn Holbrook Smith Music Hall at Marshall University.
