Carroll Gallery, located on the first floor of the Visual Arts Center at 927 Third Ave. in Huntington. This annual exhibition features 30 works by 30 artists from across the United States, focusing on themes of place as narrative and its impact on identity.<\/p>\n<p>This year\u2019s exhibition was juried by Erika b. Hess, a painter, artistic director of Visual Arts at Chautauqua Institution, and creator of the art podcast \u201cI Like Your Work.\u201d Hess\u2019s work has been exhibited nationally, including New York City, Brooklyn, Detroit, Los Angeles, Boston and Philadelphia. She maintains an active studio practice in Columbus, Ohio, and in Long Island City, New York. Hess received her MFA from Boston University.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cChosen from 225 submissions, Erika\u2019s thoughtful selection of 30 works creates a fresh dialogue on place and identity. Each artist\u2019s voice resonates uniquely, while together they form a cohesive collective body of work,\u201d said Gallery Director Sophia Celdr\u00e1n of Marshall\u2019s School of Art &amp; Design.<\/p>\n<p>A closing awards reception is scheduled from 6-8 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 5, in the Carroll Gallery. Light refreshments will be served.<\/p>\n<p>In conjunction with the reception, the School of Art &amp; Design Galleries will host a joint reception for a second exhibition this month, \u201cWe Are Here, We Will be Seen.\u201d It will be in the Birke Art Gallery Jan. 12-Feb. 5 and features the work of eight women and nonbinary artists from across the United States exploring a range of themes from personal identity to cultural history. It explores visibility and includes stories from perspectives that are less commonly represented.<\/p>\n<p>The exhibitions and closing receptions are free and open to all. Gallery hours are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday.
