The concert is free and open to all, and will include works by Johann Sebastian Bach, Robert Schumann, and Sergei Rachmaninoff.<\/p>\n<p>As part of the Joan C. Edwards Distinguished Professor in the Arts Endowment program, Tiu\u2019s visit to Marshall will also include a piano master class at 5:30 p.m. Jan. 18, which is also free and open to the public.<\/p>\n<p>Born in the Philippines, Tiu has been called \u201can artist of uncommon abilities\u201d by American Record Guide. He is the head of Piano Studies at the Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music, National University of Singapore, and he holds the Madeline Goh Professorship in Piano. He studied with Jerome Lowenthal at the Juilliard School, with Michael Lewin at Boston Conservatory, and with Nita Abrogar-Quinto and Nelly Castro in the Philippines.<\/p>\n<p>Tiu is a recipient of Juilliard\u2019s William Petschek Award and a prizewinner of competitions in Pretoria (UNISA), Calgary (Honens), Helsinki (Maj Lind) and Santander (Paloma O\u2019Shea).<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAlbert Tiu and I met while judging an international piano competition in Taiwan in 2020. It is an honor to welcome an artist of this caliber to Marshall,\u201d said Dr. Henning Vauth, professor of piano at Marshall. \u201cPlease join us for an afternoon of beautiful music.
