Carroll Gallery, located in the Visual Arts Center at 927 3rd Ave. in downtown Huntington.

On March 26, there will be an artist talk and a reception. The talk will be from 5-6 p.m. in Room 209 of the Visual Arts Center, and the reception follows from 6-8 p.m.

Speed has taught painting at the University of Nebraska at Omaha and currently is an associate professor of art in painting at the University of Alabama. His work has been included in numerous exhibitions over the past several years throughout the United States as well as England and Scotland.

“Memory Fails Me” explores the intimate dynamics of home life through rhythmic compositions that balance organic and geometric forms. Created with painstakingly hand-cut stencils, each work layers gestures and geometries to evoke the tension and comfort of shared domestic spaces. By navigating the boundaries between public and private spheres, Speed’s artworks offer a visual language that reflects the continual transformation of the domestic environment. The work highlights how internal and external forces shape relationships between idea and form in contemporary visual expression.

“An artist’s relationship to public versus private space is something we see studied throughout all of art history,” said Gallery Director Sophia Celdrán of the School of Art & Design. “This exhibition explores those themes with a thoughtful approach that is a beautiful combination of contemporary and analog techniques.”

Gallery hours are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday.
