{"id":29298,"date":"2026-03-26T07:27:42","date_gmt":"2026-03-26T11:27:42","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.marshall.edu\/news\/?p=29298"},"modified":"2026-03-26T07:27:42","modified_gmt":"2026-03-26T11:27:42","slug":"marshall-to-showcase-student-innovation-at-research-and-creativity-symposium","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.marshall.edu\/news\/2026\/03\/marshall-to-showcase-student-innovation-at-research-and-creativity-symposium\/","title":{"rendered":"Marshall to showcase student innovation at Research and Creativity Symposium"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>Marshall University will host its annual Research and Creativity Symposium April 1\u20132, showcasing student scholarship, innovation and artistic work from across the university.<\/p>\n<p>The two-day event highlights undergraduate and graduate research, offering students the opportunity to present projects through oral presentations, posters and creative displays while engaging with faculty, peers and community members.<\/p>\n<p>The symposium will open at 2:15 p.m. Tuesday, April 1, with welcome remarks in the Encova Auditorium at the Brad D. Smith Center for Business &amp; Innovation.<\/p>\n<p>The keynote address will follow at 2:30 p.m., featuring Xavier M\u00ednguez L\u00f3pez, associate professor of language and literature at the University of Valencia. His presentation, \u201cPlaying for Reading: Developing Creativity through Literary Education,\u201d will explore the role of creativity and storytelling in learning across cultures.<\/p>\n<p>Student presentations will continue throughout the day Wednesday, April 2, in the Memorial Student Center and the Drinko Library Atrium.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Student Research and Creativity Symposium gives our students the opportunity to see themselves as scholars, creators, and professionals whose work matters beyond the classroom,\u201d said Philippe Georgel, senior director of the Office of Student Research at Marshall. \u201cBy presenting their research and creative projects to audiences that include faculty, peers, community members and industry leaders, students gain confidence, sharpen their communication skills and come to understand the broader impact their ideas can have on society.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Georgel added that the symposium reflects Marshall\u2019s commitment to research as a Carnegie R2 institution.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAt Marshall, research is central to who we are,\u201d he said. \u201cExperiences like this symposium help students connect theory to practice, work closely with faculty mentors, and recognize how discovery and creativity contribute to our region\u2019s economy and quality of life.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He also emphasized the significance of this year\u2019s keynote speaker.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are especially honored to welcome Dr. Xavier M\u00ednguez L\u00f3pez as our keynote speaker,\u201d Georgel said. \u201cHis internationally recognized work on creativity, storytelling and intercultural learning speaks directly to the core values of this event.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Research and Creativity Symposium is free and open to the public.<\/p><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Marshall University will host its annual Research and Creativity Symposium April 1\u20132, showcasing student scholarship, innovation and artistic work from across the university.
