{"id":29332,"date":"2026-04-10T10:14:11","date_gmt":"2026-04-10T14:14:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.marshall.edu\/news\/?p=29332"},"modified":"2026-04-07T09:18:13","modified_gmt":"2026-04-07T13:18:13","slug":"senior-capstone-art-exhibitions-spring-2026","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.marshall.edu\/news\/2026\/04\/senior-capstone-art-exhibitions-spring-2026\/","title":{"rendered":"Marshall to present senior capstone art exhibitions"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>The Marshall University School of Art &amp; Design presents the Spring 2026 Capstone Exhibition Season, a series of exhibitions showcasing the culmination of skills and ideas gathered by graduating students.<\/p>\n<p>The first exhibition, \u201cHolocene,\u201d features artists Ben Ardman, Jenna Nichols, Abby Thompson, Nathaniel Thompson and Audrey Vance and their work in animation, sculpture, stop motion and apparel.<\/p>\n<p>Each distinct body of work highlights the artist\u2019s perspective and demonstrates individual styles of storytelling, whether reimagining ancient stories through apparel or telling newer stories by unveiling a West Virginia-focused snow sports brand.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHolocene\u201d will be on view April 13-16, with a reception and gallery talk from 5-7 p.m. Monday, April 13, in the Charles W. &amp; Norma C. Carroll Gallery and the Pneumatic Gallery, located on the first floor of the Visual Arts Center at 927 Third Ave. in downtown Huntington.<\/p>\n<p>The second exhibition, \u201cOverstimuli,\u201d is hosted by artists Sophia Gillispie, Lincoln Horn, Alana Muncy-Morris, Kaleigh Riddle and Maggie Robinson. \u201cOverstimuli\u201d features projection mapping, videos, paintings and sculptures.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhile each artist\u2019s work differs greatly from each other\u2019s, the pieces come together to create a show about the relationship between physicality, being an individual, and external forces on internal perceptions,\u201d said Gallery Director Sophia Celdr\u00e1n.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOverstimuli\u201d will be on view April 20-23, with a reception and gallery talk planned for 5-7 p.m. Monday, April 20, in the Charles W. &amp; Norma C. Carroll Gallery and the Pneumatic Gallery.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cStudents spend a year planning, developing and installing the artwork while preparing the receptions and gallery talks,\u201d Celdr\u00e1n said. \u201cSenior Capstone Exhibitions celebrate the end of their students in the School of Art &amp; Design and act as their first professional exhibition.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Gallery hours are 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Monday through Friday. Admission to the gallery and all events are free and open to the public.
