Smith and Alys Smith with the 2026 Good Scouter Award during the Friends of Scouting Leadership Luncheon at noon Thursday, May 28, 2026.<\/p>\n<p>The luncheon will be on the arena floor of the University of Charleston Innovation Center and will celebrate the Smiths\u2019 commitment to youth development, leadership and community service.<\/p>\n<p>Presented annually, the Good Scouter Award recognizes individuals who exemplify the values outlined in the Scout Oath and Scout Law through their professional accomplishments, personal integrity and dedication to serving others.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBrad and Alys Smith have dedicated years of service, leadership and generosity to creating stronger communities and expanding opportunities for young people,\u201d said Scout Executive Jeffrey L. Purdy. \u201cThrough their commitment to education, entrepreneurship, leadership development and outdoor experiences, they embody the values of Scouting and inspire future generations to lead with character and purpose.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Purdy said the Smiths have championed initiatives that build resilience, self-awareness, confidence, healthy development and civic engagement among youth.<\/p>\n<p>Brad Smith is widely recognized for his leadership in Silicon Valley and for serving 11 years as CEO of Intuit. He now serves as the 38th president of Marshall University and is the first alumnus to lead the university in that role.<\/p>\n<p>Alys Smith is a successful mediator and trial attorney who serves as a Guardian ad Litem, advocating for the best interests of children in abuse and neglect cases.<\/p>\n<p>Together, through their <a href=\"https:\/\/wing2wingfoundation.org\/\">Wing 2 Wing Foundation<\/a>, the Smiths have supported numerous organizations and boards focused on empowering young people and strengthening communities.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis recognition is incredibly meaningful because Scouting represents so many of the values that guide our family,\u201d Brad Smith said. \u201cWe are grateful for the many mentors, educators and volunteers who continue to invest in young people and create opportunities for them to succeed.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Alys Smith said Scouting is an organization Wing 2 Wing is pleased to support because of its impact on young people and communities.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOne of the greatest responsibilities we share as adults is helping guide children and adolescents as they discover their strengths, build confidence and learn the value of compassion and leadership,\u201d said Alys Smith. \u201cScouting plays an important role in shaping young people into thoughtful and capable individuals, and I am deeply honored to receive an award that reflects those ideals.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Buckskin Council encourages community members, business leaders and supporters of youth development to attend the Friends of Scouting Leadership Luncheon and participate in the organization\u2019s ongoing mission to support the healthy development of young people across the region.<\/p>\n<p>For more information on the event, please visit <a href=\"https:\/\/www.buckskin.org\/uncategorized\/leadership-luncheon\/\">Buckskin Council Leadership Luncheon<\/a>.<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Scouting America Buckskin Council will honor Brad D.
