{"id":29659,"date":"2026-07-23T09:12:16","date_gmt":"2026-07-23T13:12:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.marshall.edu\/news\/?p=29659"},"modified":"2026-07-22T12:21:01","modified_gmt":"2026-07-22T16:21:01","slug":"virtual-ethics-conference-behavioral-health","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.marshall.edu\/news\/2026\/07\/virtual-ethics-conference-behavioral-health\/","title":{"rendered":"Statewide virtual ethics conference to unite behavioral health, addiction and prevention, and peer recovery professionals in August"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>The West Virginia Department of Human Services\u2019 Bureau for Behavioral Health, in partnership with Marshall University and the Opioid Response Network, will host the 2026 West Virginia Behavioral Health Ethics Conference on Tuesday, Aug. 4, 2026, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:35 p.m.<\/p>\n<p>The free, virtual conference will bring together behavioral health, prevention, addiction and peer recovery professionals from across West Virginia to advance ethical practice through expert-led education, collaboration and meaningful discussion.<\/p>\n<p>Through expert presentations and interactive educational sessions, attendees will explore current ethical issues, share best practices and gain practical tools to support ethical decision-making in their daily work. Topics will affect a range of practice areas, including:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Behavioral health<\/li>\n<li>Addiction and prevention<\/li>\n<li>Peer recovery support<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The conference is designed for clinicians, counselors, social workers, psychologists, peer recovery support specialists, prevention professionals and others committed to advancing ethical, person-centered care. Attendees will gain practical strategies for navigating complex ethical situations while connecting with colleagues from across the state.<\/p>\n<p>Pending approval, attendees may earn up to 7.5 continuing education hours in the areas of licensed professional counseling, psychology, social work, addiction and prevention, and peer recovery support.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are excited to bring together professionals from across the continuum of care for this statewide virtual ethics conference,\u201d said Kelly Wiltsey, project director of the West Virginia Behavioral Health Training Center, a project of the Marshall University Center of Excellence for Recovery. \u201cThis event offers a valuable opportunity to learn, connect and strengthen ethical practice while supporting the person-centered care and collaboration that make a difference in communities across West Virginia.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Registration is free, and participants may attend remotely from their homes or workplaces.
