{"id":29759,"date":"2026-08-27T09:58:47","date_gmt":"2026-08-27T13:58:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.marshall.edu\/news\/?p=29759"},"modified":"2026-08-24T15:16:07","modified_gmt":"2026-08-24T19:16:07","slug":"west-virginia-minority-health-fair-2026","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.marshall.edu\/news\/2026\/08\/west-virginia-minority-health-fair-2026\/","title":{"rendered":"West Virginia Minority Health Fair returns to Ritter Park Sept. 5"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>The eighth annual West Virginia Minority Health Fair will bring health resources, community organizations and family-friendly activities to Ritter Park from noon to 3 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 5.<\/p>\n<p>The event is designed to promote health awareness among West Virginia\u2019s minority communities while strengthening\u00a0connections between residents and community-based organizations.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Improving health begins with awareness, access and action,\u201d said LaDawna Walker Dean, of the WV Minority Health Initiative at the Marshall University Minority Health Institute. \u201cThe West Virginia Minority Health Fair is designed to connect individuals and families with trusted health resources, encourage preventive care and inspire healthier communities. When we work together to eliminate barriers to care, we create opportunities for everyone to achieve better health outcomes.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>In addition to health information and community vendors, the fair will feature food, music, inflatables, prizes and other activities. The event is open to the community.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Strong communities are built through strong partnerships,\u201d said Dr. Anthony T. Woart, chair of the Department of Public Health in the College of Health Professions and director of the Minority Health Institute. \u201cWhen healthcare providers and community organizations come together, we can remove barriers to care, increase access to vital services and empower individuals to take charge of their health. The West Virginia Minority Health Fair reflects our shared commitment to improving health outcomes for all West Virginians.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The event is sponsored by Wellpoint, Walgreens, Marshall Health, WVABLE and the Marshall University Minority Health Institute.<\/p>\n<p>The fair is free and open to the public.
