Smith will host a fireside chat with Gautam Pillay, Ph.D., vice president for research and executive director of the Marshall University Research Corporation (MURC), on Thursday, Oct. 8.<\/p>\n<p>The fireside chat is scheduled from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in the Encova Auditorium at the Brad D. Smith Center for Business and Innovation, 1425 4th Ave. in Huntington. The event will also be livestreamed.<\/p>\n<p>The conversation will introduce Pillay to the Marshall community and explore the university\u2019s research future, including opportunities for growth, research culture, partnerships and the path toward Marshall\u2019s goal of reaching $150 million in annual research expenditures by 2037.<\/p>\n<p>Following the fireside chat, attendees are invited to meet members of the MURC team from 12:45 to 2 p.m. This in-person-only session will allow faculty, staff and other members of the Marshall community to learn about the people, services and resources available to support research success.<\/p>\n<p>The schedule includes:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m.<\/strong>Fireside chat and livestream<\/li>\n<li><strong>12:45-2 p.m.<\/strong>Meet the MURC Team (in-person-only)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The event is presented by the Marshall University Research Corporation and is centered on the theme <strong>\u201cWelcome.
