A freshman or sophomore may not be ready to accept an internship today, but meeting an employer, learning about an organization and understanding what they look for in candidates can help that student make better decisions throughout college.”

The event also offers opportunities for students to practice introducing themselves to employers, build professional networks and learn about career paths, workplace expectations and the skills and experiences that make them competitive candidates.

“Sometimes students think they need to know exactly what they want to do before they come to a career fair,” Brown said. “It’s actually a great place to figure some of that out. You can ask employers what kinds of roles exist within their organizations, what majors they hire and what experiences they recommend students gain before graduation.”

Those who need professional attire can take advantage of the JCPenney Suit-Up Event 3 to 6 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 20, at JCPenney at the Huntington Mall in Barboursville.

Through a partnership with JCPenney, Marshall students, alumni, faculty and staff can receive up to 45% off select careerwear, shoes and accessories during the Suit-Up Event. Eligible merchandise includes men’s and women’s apparel, dress shoes, accessories and other workplace essentials. Select scrubs and workwear are also included, providing options for students preparing for careers in health care, skilled professions and other fields.

“Career readiness is about more than having a strong resume,” Brown said. “Feeling prepared and confident in what you’re wearing can make a difference when you walk into an interview, career fair or your first day on the job. Suit-Up gives our students an opportunity to find clothing that fits both their career goals and their budget.”

JCPenney Beauty also will offer a free mini service featuring interview-ready makeup, skincare and grooming options during the event.

For more information on Marshall University’s Office of Career Education, visit the website.

Marshall students and alumni will have the opportunity to connect with nearly 120 employers during the university’s Fall Career Fair from noon to 4 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 23.
