Admission to the Pre-licensure Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) Program is on a competitive basis. The application deadline is <strong>January 15. <\/strong>Questions about the application process: please contact the School of Nursing by phone at 304-696-3821 or by email at <a href=\"mailto:bsn-nursing@marshall.edu\">bsn-nursing@marshall.edu<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h2>Students may be accepted into the Pre-licensure BSN Program in two ways<\/h2>\n<ol>\n<li><strong>High school seniors<\/strong>: High school seniors with a minimum ACT composite of 21 (or equivalent SAT composite score) and HS GPA of 2.5 or higher are eligible to apply. Automatic acceptance is granted to those with an ACT composite of 24 or higher (or equivalent SAT composite score) and HS GPA of 2.5 or higher (pending available space). Successful applicants enter at the freshman level. Progression to the sophomore year of the Pre-licensure BSN program is <strong>contingent<\/strong> on completion of all required freshman-level courses with a \u201cC\u201d or better by July 15 the year the student is scheduled to begin the sophomore nursing classes. Students who, for whatever reason, are unable to begin the sophomore nursing classes as scheduled must reapply to the program.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Current or previous college students<\/strong>: Current college students or college graduates with an overall GPA of 2.5 or higher are eligible to apply. Successful applicants enter at the sophomore level. Applicants must have completed all required freshman-level required courses with a \u201cC\u201d or better, or be able to successfully complete these courses by July 15 the year of application. (Pre-requisite courses for sophomore year placement are:\u00a0 ENG 101, BSC 227, CHM 205, CMM 213, BSC 228, PSY 201, and MTH 121 or 125.) Applicants who have attended or are attending another university must provide official transcripts to the university and the SON from those universities for the most current semester. Current Marshall students need not supply transcripts to the SON.<\/p>\n<p>Marshall University<br \/>\nSchool of Nursing<br \/>\nOne John Marshall Drive<br \/>\nCorbly Hall 429A<br \/>\nHuntington, WV 25755<\/p>\n<h2>Other Important Notices when Applying<\/h2>\n<h3>State Board of Nursing and Eligibility to sit for RN Examination<\/h3>\n<p>The State Board of Nursing may deny eligibility to sit for the Registered Nurse Licensing Examination to individuals who have been convicted of a misdemeanor or felony and persons with drug\/chemical dependency. Admission to and graduation from the MU School of Nursing does not guarantee applicant will be permitted to sit for the licensing examination. See <a href=\"https:\/\/wvrnboard.wv.gov\/education\/Documents\/Prospective%20Applicants%20Letter%206-23-21.pdf\">letter from the WV Board of Nursing<\/a> for more information about criminal convictions and eligibility for licensure in West Virginia.<\/p>\n<h3>Background checks and Drug Screens<\/h3>\n<p>Prior to beginning clinical, students must complete a background check and drug screen. Based upon the findings, students may not be allowed to continue in the Nursing Program. Additionally, the School of Nursing may require students to submit to a drug screen upon reasonable suspicion or cause or may impose random drug testing for students undergoing treatment and\/or rehabilitation for substance abuse. Facilities utilized for clinical may limit or prohibit students with criminal histories from participating in clinical experiences. Other options may not exist for the student to complete the required clinical hours in order to obtain a nursing degree. All drug screens and background checks are the financial responsibility of the student.<\/p>\n<h3>Travel Requirements<\/h3>\n<p>The School of Nursing utilizes multiple clinical agencies during the course of the Nursing Program. Some of these agencies are outside the immediate campus area (either the Point Pleasant campus or the Huntington campus). It is the student\u2019s responsibility to arrange transportation to all clinical sites utilized in the program. During the course of the program, students may be assigned to clinical experiences that may occur any time of the day and\/or any day of the week.<\/p>\n<h3>Health Form and Immunizations<\/h3>\n<p>Prior to beginning the sophomore nursing courses, students must submit a completed health form and record of immunizations. Clinical agencies may require other immunizations and\/or lab testing at any point in the curriculum, and <strong>it is the responsibility of the student to pay for these immunizations\/tests and provide documentation as required<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<h3>Onboarding Costs<\/h3>\n<p>In the event that facilities charge any onboarding costs for student placement, <strong>it is the responsibility of the student to pay these charges.<\/strong><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>All applicants must meet the general admission requirements of Marshall University as described in the Undergraduate Catalog.
