\n \nIf you find yourself asking any of the following questions, the Ombuds office is here to help:<\/p>\n

  • Who do I talk to?<\/li>\n
  • I’m lost in the bureaucracy.<\/li>\n
  • Am I misreading the situation?<\/li>\n

    \n What can the Ombuds office do for me?\n <\/div>\n\n \n \n <\/path>\n <\/svg>\n <\/span>\n <\/button>\n\n \n
    \n \nResponses vary for our unique visitors’ individual situation and informed consent, so we may:<\/p>\n
      \n
    • Listen, which may be all you want<\/li>\n
    • Offer information about Marshall University policies and procedures<\/li>\n
    • Discuss concerns and clarify issues<\/li>\n
    • Help identify and evaluate a range of options for resolving a problem<\/li>\n
    • Gather information and offer referrals to other resources<\/li>\n
    • Offer coaching, for example, to prepare for a difficult conversation<\/li>\n
    • Facilitate communication<\/li>\n
    • Work for collaborative agreements through mediation<\/li>\n
    • Track perceived issues and trends<\/li>\n
    • Make recommendations for institutional improvements<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n \n \n \n

      \n What is the Ombuds Office unable to do?\n <\/div>\n\n \n \n <\/path>\n <\/svg>\n <\/span>\n <\/button>\n\n \n
      \n \nWe will try our best to assist you, but there are some things we do not do:<\/p>\n

      • Make decisions or findings of fact<\/li>\n
      • Establish, change, or set aside policies<\/li>\n
      • Offer legal advice<\/li>\n
      • Offer psychological counseling<\/li>\n
      • Participate in grievances or other formal processes<\/li>\n
      • Serve as an agent of notice for the University<\/li>\n
