If the thesis is deemed to be human subject research, then you will be directed to the appropriate IRB coordinator for assistance. A subject may be either a healthy human or a patient.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Definition of Engaged in Research:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>A person is considered engaged in a particular non-exempt human subject research project when he\/she for the purposes of the research project obtains: (1) data or biospecimens related to the subjects of the research through intervention or interaction with them; (2) identifiable private information or identifiable biospecimens related to the subjects of the research; or (3) the informed consent of human subjects for the research.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/article>\n<\/div>\n\n\n                            <\/div>\n        <\/div>\n    <\/div>\n        \n    <div\n        id=\"what-is-not-human-subject-research-3\"\n        x-data=\"accordion('what-is-not-human-subject-research-3', false)\"\n        class=\"rounded-lg overflow-hidden mb-2 transition-all duration-300 ease-out bg-gray-50\"\n        x-bind:class=\"expanded ? The study should be submitted to the appropriate Institutional Review Board (IRB):<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Applications for medical\/biological research should be submitted to\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.marshall.edu\/ori\/office-of-research-integrity\/human-subject-research\/institutional-review-boards\/institutional-review-board-1-medical\/\">IRB #1<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>Applications for social\/behavioral research should be submitted to\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.marshall.edu\/ori\/office-of-research-integrity\/human-subject-research\/institutional-review-boards\/institutional-review-board-2-socialbehavioral\/\">IRB #2<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>Applications for medical\/biological studies that have been approved under a central IRB should be submitted to\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.marshall.edu\/ori\/office-of-research-integrity\/human-subject-research\/institutional-review-boards\/institutional-review-board-1-medical\/\">IRB #1<\/a>\u00a0(see\u00a0Standard Operating Procedures Manual,\u00a0chapter five).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The IRB #1 and IRB #2 submission lists can be found in the IRBNet Library.
