National search to start for provost/senior VP for academic affairs

Share

Dear Marshall faculty and staff,

This week we will begin the process of beginning a national search for a permanent provost/senior vice president for academic affairs.

Working with President-Elect Brad Smith, I will start by putting in place the processes to solicit a national search firm and to establish a search committee. We anticipate the committee will be in place and initial steps will be underway before I step down as president Dec. 31. I will hand off the search process to President Smith on Jan. 1, 2022, and will serve as a part-time consultant to him in 2022.

As was done in the last provost search, we will select a faculty member from each of the nine colleges to serve on the search committee. There also will be staff, student and community representation on the committee. I am pleased Senior Vice President for Operations/Chief of Staff Brandi Jacobs-Jones has agreed to chair the search committee.

The president-elect and I agree we need to move forward with this search in a timely fashion. We both look forward to beginning the process for selecting an outstanding academic leader to serve in this important position.

Sincerely,
Jerome A. Gilbert, Ph.D.
President
