It is funded by West Virginia Higher Education Policy Commission and is awarded to WV high-school seniors on the basis of their high school academic records and test scores.<\/p>\n<h4>Criteria to Apply<\/h4>\n<p>High school students who have at least a 3.0 who are WV residents (there is an exception for Armed Services members\/dependents) must submit a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cfwv.com\/financial-aid\/promise-scholarship\/apply-now\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">WV PROMISE Application<\/a>\u00a0and file a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.studentaid.gov\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">FAFSA<\/a> by September 1st prior to the academic year enrolling in Marshall.\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cfwv.com\/financial-aid\/promise-scholarship\/forms\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Certain core course requirements<\/a>\u00a0must be met.\u00a0 In addition,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cfwv.com\/financial-aid\/promise-scholarship\/how-it-works\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">minimum scores must be met<\/a>\u00a0by the July test date for the ACT or the June test date for the SAT of the application year.<\/p>\n<h4>Criteria for Grant to Pay<\/h4>\n<p>Students receiving the Promise Scholarship must enroll full-time and have the required minimum GPA. Scholarship is to only pay for\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.marshall.edu\/sfa\/cost-of-attendance\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">tuition and mandatory fees<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h4>Renewal Criteria<\/h4>\n<p>Please review the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cfwv.com\/financial-aid\/promise-scholarship\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">PROMISE Scholarship\u00a0website<\/a>\u00a0for the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cfwv.com\/financial-aid\/promise-scholarship\/renew-your-scholarship\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">full renewal criteria<\/a>. You must complete and earn 30 credit hours while maintaining a 2.75 GPA at the completion of each year. You can receive no more than eight semesters for a Bachelor\u2019s degree or four semesters for an Associates. Students have six years from the date first awarded, to use their Promise award. Eligibility for renewal is examined at the end of a year of scholarship utilization, based on first-time semester enrollment. A student who does not meet the renewal criteria for the PROMISE Scholarship at the end of the spring semester may make a PROMISE Scholarship Reinstatement Request if the deficiency can be remediated during the summer or courses were taken at another institution. Students who do not meet the renewal criteria by the start of the fall semester lose future eligibility for institutional scholarships.<\/p>\n<h4>Appeal Loss of Grant<\/h4>\n<p>If you did not have your Promise Grant renewed, there are a few options to appeal.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>GPA Appeal<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 To request review of academic records, which include your GPA and completion of 30 credit hours, at the conclusion of the academic year, including summer, for PROMISE Scholarship renewal in the current academic year, complete the PROMISE Scholarship Reinstatement Request (form to be available in late Spring).<\/li>\n<li><b>Promise Scholarship Credit Hour Requirement Appeal<\/b>\u00a0\u2013\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cfwv.com\/financial-aid\/promise-scholarship\/appeal-a-denial\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Degree Pursuant Coursework appeal<\/a>\u00a0for those who can be full time in each term during the academic year but won\u2019t be able to achieve the 30-credit hour requirement for renewal purposes. If approved, they are required to complete the number of degree pursuant courses available to them in the academic year. For example, if they have 25 credits available to take, they must complete all 25 to qualify. This will need rechecked at the end of the spring semester. If they fail or drop a course, the waiver would be revoked.<\/li>\n<li><b>Appeal to Waive the Full-Time Enrollment Requirement<\/b>\u00a0<b>for State Aid<\/b>\u00a0\u2013\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cfwv.com\/financial-aid\/promise-scholarship\/appeal-a-denial\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Full-time waiver enrollment appeal<\/a>\u00a0for state aid programs (including Promise) where students cannot be full-time in the term due to not having available degree pursuant coursework. If approved for one semester, they would need to complete the requirements for a one semester award in the academic year, which is 15 credits between fall, spring, and summer in the academic year. If they were part-time and approved for a waiver in both terms, the credit hour requirement would be waived and they wouldn\u2019t need the 15.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"py-6 border-b border-gray-100 first:pt-0 last:border-none\" id=\"wv-summer-promise-scholarship\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"text-gray-900 text-xl font-bold lg:text-2xl\" id=\"WV Summer Promise Scholarship\">WV Summer Promise Scholarship<\/div>\n\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"pt-6 styled-list\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p><strong>Only current Promise recipients can receive a Summer Promise award.\u00a0<\/strong>A summer award counts as a semester of utilization toward the maximum number of available semesters. A student seeking a bachelor\u2019s degree is eligible to receive a Promise Scholarship for no more than eight semesters of a four-year degree program.<\/p>\n<p>A student seeking an associate degree is eligible to receive a Promise Scholarship for no more than four total semesters of a two-year degree program. (Students transitioning from two-year degree program to a four-year degree program must achieve renewal requirements after their second year to continue scholarship eligibility.)<\/p>\n<h4>Summer Promise Application<\/h4>\n<p>The Summer Promise application opens March 15 and has a May 15 priority deadline. Applications may be submitted after May 15 until the final June 15 deadline. No applications will be accepted after June 15.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cfwv.com\/financial-aid\/promise-scholarship\/summer-promise-scholarship\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-auth=\"NotApplicable\" data-safelink=\"true\" data-linkindex=\"0\">Complete Summer Promise Application<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Those who apply by May 15 and are eligible will be notified in June. Those who apply after the priority deadline and are eligible will be notified in July.<\/p>\n<h4>Eligibility<\/h4>\n<p>To be eligible for a summer award, a student must be academically eligible for scholarship continuation at the end of the spring semester preceding the summer that assistance is requested.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Any summer award under this provision is dependent upon the availability of funds as determined by the Policy Commission.<\/li>\n<li>Students, other than those graduating at the end of the summer or fall term of enrollment, must be enrolled for at least 12 credit hours.<\/li>\n<li>The hours requirement can be waived for students willing to utilize a semester of eligibility towards their maximum number of semesters of eligibility. You may submit a waiver request when filing the summer application or by submitting a written request to our office by email to\u00a0<a href=\"mailto:PROMISE@wvhepc.edu\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-auth=\"NotApplicable\" data-safelink=\"true\" data-linkindex=\"1\">Promise@wvhepc.edu<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>To be eligible for a summer award a student must submit an application by the deadline. Summer awards will be made in early June for eligible students who meet the May 15 priority deadline; students with\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.marshall.edu\/sfa\/cost-of-attendance\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">tuition and fees<\/a>\u00a0due before June may be responsible for payment. Contact your institution for further information concerning your payment.<\/p>\n<p>Summer Promise eligibility cannot be determined until June, once final grades are determined for the preceding spring term and your home institution notifies our office of your academic eligibility. Your eligibility will also depend on whether you are currently registered for the required credits during the summer term(s). You should register for courses for the summer term(s) by May 15 the priority deadline.<\/p>\n<p>Summer awards are dependent upon the availability of funding. WV STEM Scholarship) Program is a student financial aid program designed to enable and encourage academically talented individuals to pursue careers in the fields of engineering, science, and technology in West Virginia.<\/p>\n<p>WV STEM Scholarships, not to exceed $3,000 per academic year, are awarded on the basis of academic qualifications and interest in the fields of engineering, science, and technology.\u00a0 You\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cfwv.com\/financial-aid\/wv-stem-scholarship\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">must apply by March 1st<\/a>. If you do not have a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/wvhepc2.my.site.com\/Community\/login\">WVSAM Account<\/a>, you will need to create one in order to apply.<\/p>\n<h4>Criteria to Apply<\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>Be a United States Citizen or resident alien.<\/li>\n<li>Have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0 on a 4.0 scale upon graduating from high school or have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0 on a 4.0 scale after completion of two semesters of course work at an eligible institution of higher education.<\/li>\n<li>Be enrolled or accepted for enrollment in engineering, science, or technology program leading to a certificate or an associate or bachelor\u2019s degree at an eligible institution of higher education.<\/li>\n<li>Agree to work full-time in an engineering, science or technology field in West Virginia for one year for each year the scholarship was received or begin an approved program of community service related to engineering, science or technology.<\/li>\n<li>Be willing to repay the scholarship received plus interest and any required collection fees if he\/she fails to fulfill the work requirement.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Priority is given to West Virginia residents.<\/p>\n<h4>Criteria for Scholarship to Pay<\/h4>\n<p>Students must be enrolled full-time and in a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cfwv.com\/financial-aid\/wv-stem-scholarship\/majors-occupations\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">program of study that qualifies under engineering, science or technology<\/a>.\u00a0 Students must be meeting Satisfactory academic progress.<\/p>\n<h4>Renewal Criteria<\/h4>\n<p>A 3.0 cumulative GPA must be maintained. The STEM application must be completed each year. You must also meet the cumulative and nursing GPA requirements set by the Recruitment and Retention Committee.<\/p>\n<p>There are also eligibility requirements specific to what kind of scholarship you are applying for:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>LPNs and RNs \u2013 You must complete at least 50% of their nursing curriculum before receiving an award.<\/li>\n<li>Graduate nursing students \u2013 You must be working as a nursing educator at a West Virginia school of nursing while enrolled in your graduate nursing program.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4>Criteria for Grant to Pay<\/h4>\n<p>Students must be enrolled at least half-time in an applicable nursing program and be meeting Satisfactory Academic Progress and required GPA, which is dictated by the program and changes annually.<\/p>\n<h4>Renewal Criteria<\/h4>\n<p>Each year, the GPA (cumulative and nursing) may change thus you must be meeting the GPA requirements required for the Nursing scholarship. If you want to be considered for renewal of this scholarship, please be sure to apply during the open application cycle.\u00a0 Because you received an award one year does not mean you are automatically considered for the next. You must apply during the open application cycle to be considered each award year.<\/p>\n\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"py-6 border-b border-gray-100 first:pt-0 last:border-none\" id=\"underwood-smith-teaching-scholars\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"text-gray-900 text-xl font-bold lg:text-2xl\" id=\"Underwood-Smith Teaching Scholars\">Underwood-Smith Teaching Scholars<\/div>\n\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"pt-6 styled-list\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>The Underwood-Smith Teaching Scholars Program is a competitive scholarship for recent high school graduates with a passion for teaching and a history of high academic achievement, community service, and active involvement in extracurricular activities while in high school. Recipients will receive $10,000 per year for up to four years (up to the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.marshall.edu\/sfa\/cost-of-attendance\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">cost of tuition and fees, housing and food<\/a>, and other approved educational expenses). In exchange, Underwood-Smith Teaching Scholars must agree to teach in a West Virginia public school in an area of critical need (math, science, elementary education or special education) for a period of five years after graduating from college.<\/p>\n<p>The scholarship may be used at any eligible West Virginia public or private, non-profit college or university offering West Virginia Board of Education-approved teacher preparation programs in math, science, elementary education, or special education. Each year, we will accept up to 25 new Underwood-Smith Teaching Scholars from a national applicant pool. To monitor the progress of your application and requirements, you must create a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.collegeforwv.com\/home\/log-in-to-wvsam\/\">WVSAM Account<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The application opens July 15 annually with a December 31st deadline.<\/p>\n<h4>Criteria to Apply<\/h4>\n<p>Students must complete the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cfwv.com\/financial-aid\/underwood-smith-teaching-scholars\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">preliminary application<\/a>\u00a0before December 31. You must also complete the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/studentaid.gov\/\">FAFSA<\/a>.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>High school senior or recent high school graduate with plans to pursue a bachelor\u2019s degree in an approved teacher preparation program in math, science, elementary education or special education at an eligible West Virginia institution;<\/li>\n<li>Has never been enrolled as a degree-seeking student at college or university;<\/li>\n<li>Achieved a cumulative high school grade point average of at least 3.25 on 4.0 scale, or an equivalent grade point average based on an individual school district\u2019s grading policy;<\/li>\n<li>Earned minimum ACT scores of 21 in math and 18 in English, or minimum SAT scores of 530 in math and 480 in English;<\/li>\n<li>Must be a United States citizen or hold a valid Employment Authorization Document (EAD), or work permit, issued by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) office; and<\/li>\n<li>Willing to teach in a West Virginia public school for five years after college graduation in the fields of math, science, elementary education, or special education. Applicants are NOT required to be residents of the state of West Virginia; and<\/li>\n<li>Must be willing to attend the award banquet and Student Success Summit event in Charleston, WV, in late July. Lodging costs will be paid by the Higher Education Policy Commission for Underwood-Smith Teaching Scholars.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Students who meet the pre-qualification applications requirements will be invited to compete in round two.\u00a0 If you are then a finalist selected from round two, you will submit a 3-5 minute video highlighting past experiences or future ambitions that have driven you to a career as a professional educator. The AmeriCorps Waiver is a \u201clast dollar in\u201d program, meaning that it applies after other gift aid.<br \/>\n<strong>How to Apply<\/strong><br \/>\nStudents must access their <a href=\"https:\/\/my.americorps.gov\/mp\/login.do\">MyAmeriCorps Portal<\/a> and complete the process to apply for the waiver. You will indicate it to be applied to Marshall University, and the waiver will then be sent to Marshall automatically once approved by AmeriCorps.<\/p>\n<h4>Requirements<\/h4>\n<p><strong>Enrollment Requirement<\/strong><br \/>\nStudents must be enrolled\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.marshall.edu\/sfa\/eligibility\/#enrollment-status\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">full-time<\/a>\u00a0to receive the AmeriCorps Waiver.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Usage Requirements<\/strong><br \/>\nStudents are limited to 8 semesters of combined usage at the undergraduate and graduate levels.
