We Are…

Mission Statement

Student Involvement and Leadership provides educational challenges, resources, and support through an integrated co-curricular program.  Involvement in opportunities sponsored by the LEAD Center allow students to develop leadership and social skills, improve our sense of community at Marshall, and enhance student character, citizenship, and respect for diversity.

Vision Statement

Our center will be the point of contact for all students that wish to be involved.  We envision an active, engaged student community that develops leaders, builds strong friendships, embraces service to others, and exemplifies a respect for diversity.

Learning Outcomes

According to the Council for the Advancement of Standards in Higher Education (2009), “the formal education of students, consisting of the curriculum and the co-curriculum, must promote student learning and development outcomes that are purposeful and holistic and that prepare students for satisfying and productive lifestyles, work, and civic participation” (p. 11).  Relevant and desirable student learning and development outcomes include:  intrapersonal development, effective leadership, social responsibility, meaningful interpersonal relationships, and civic engagement.

Learning Outcomes for Student Involvement & Leadership include the following:

  1. Students will apply reasoning skills based upon critical, creative, and reflective thinking;
  2. Students will understand the basic concepts of leadership and followership;
  3. Students will respond thoughtfully to social responsibility and diversity;
  4. Students will acknowledge the value of participating in social and educational interaction with others;
  5. Students will exhibit a commitment to civic engagement and an awareness of global responsibility
