The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA)<\/h2>\n\n\t\t\t\t\n
RELEASE OF INFORMATION (PROXY)<\/div>\n\n \n
\n

The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) ensures that students have certain rights regarding their educational records.\u00a0 Under FERPA, the university may not disclose student records (except to Marshall officials who have a legitimate educational interest) without the student\u2019s written consent.<\/p>\n

Students who wish to give permission to parents or others to view their records may do so electronically by going through MyMU to MILO and completing the\u00a0Proxy\u00a0forms under the \u201cInformation Release\u201d tab.<\/p>\n

A\u00a0proxy\u00a0can be defined as a person who represents someone else. In this case, the person a student identifies as proxy, will have access to the academic records that the student specifies in our proxy system.<\/p>\n

This person will receive an email which will allow them to set up their own account to track the student\u2019s records, and they can speak with a representative of the university about the student as long as they have a passphrase (established by the student and shared with the proxy).<\/p>\n

Students can change or delete a proxy at any time.<\/p>\n\n <\/div>\n\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t

Setting the PIN:<\/strong><\/p>\n

Before accessing the proxy account, the family member will need to set their PIN following the steps below:<\/p>\n

    \n
  1. The family member and the student will receive two emails. The family member will need to click the link in the email with the Action Password.<\/li>\n
  2. Enter the Action Password and click Submit<\/li>\n
  3. Enter the email address that was used for the account and use the Action Password for the \u201cOld PIN.\u201d<\/li>\n
  4. A new PIN can now be created for the account.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    Forgotten PIN:<\/strong><\/p>\n

    The family member can reset a forgotten PIN following the steps below:<\/p>\n

      \n
    1. Access the proxy login site using the link sent in the email.<\/li>\n
    2. Enter the email address used to set up the account and click \u201cForgot PIN.\u201d<\/li>\n
    3. The family member will receive an email with a link and an action password needed to reset the PIN.<\/li>\n
    4. The process of resetting the PIN is the same as setting the first PIN (see above)<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

      Reset PIN:<\/strong><\/p>\n

      The student can reset the PIN for a family member by following the steps below:<\/p>\n

        \n
      1. Go into the Information Release Tab in MILO<\/li>\n
      2. Select the Proxy Relation they want to reset the PIN to<\/li>\n
      3. Select Reset PIN<\/li>\n
      4. This will send an email to the student and family member with a link and action password.<\/li>\n
      5. The process of resetting the PIN is the same as setting the first PIN (see above)<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

        Please note that this will not be the same PIN as their Student PIN to access transcripts. This PIN is only used for proxy access.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n \n \n\n \n
