At Marshall, student success is EVERYONE\u2019s mission.<\/h3>\n

The Center for Student Success is here to assist you with academic issues that arise during your time at Marshall and to help you find creative solutions to some difficult situations. There are many other units on campus to help you succeed, persist and graduate – but we have our special focus. This doesn’t mean that we aren’t in constant dialogue with one another – we are!<\/p>\n

One of the reasons student success is truly successful at Marshall is because the various units entrusted with supporting you work closely together for the success of each student. That said, it might be helpful to know the difference between the Center for Student Success and other units who make that success possible.<\/p>\n \n \n \n \n

\n Having a rough start to your college academics?\n <\/div>\n\n \n \n <\/path>\n <\/svg>\n <\/span>\n <\/button>\n\n \n
\n \nThe Center for Student Success may be a great place to start! We assist students in their transition into college. We have many resources at our disposal and often bring in advisors to help with finding the right academic path for students.<\/p>\n

Additionally, you can reach out to your FAM peer mentor and they can give you some encouragement or advice. We also offer study rooms and informal study groups will pop-up in our offices in East Hall. You can often find assistance from other students here.

\n Struggling with your academics and facing a suspension?\n <\/div>\n\n \n \n <\/path>\n <\/svg>\n <\/span>\n <\/button>\n\n \n
\n \nReach out to us! We operate the Alternative Suspension program which gives students an option to return to school without having to sit out for an academic suspension. You can come by and discuss and find out if it is the right choice for you!

\n Having advising and general academic issues?\n <\/div>\n\n \n \n <\/path>\n <\/svg>\n <\/span>\n <\/button>\n\n \n
\n \nMarshall Undergraduate Academic Advising<\/a> and your academic advisor are generally your best sources of information and strongest advocates for your success and will also assist you in selecting correct courses to meet program and graduation requirements. In addition, your academic advisor will receive alerts from faculty regarding your academic performance and, occasionally, overall well-being.<\/p>\n

Always attempt to start with your academic advisor for standard questions about academics. You or your academic advisor can reach out to the Center for Student Success if there is a need to craft solutions to academic problems that may include multiple campus units. The Center for Student Success will always work closely with your academic advisor and seek their input.

\n Are you looking for financial assistance?\n <\/div>\n\n \n \n <\/path>\n <\/svg>\n <\/span>\n <\/button>\n\n \n
\n \nWhile our office is sometimes brought into conversations and utilized to assist in trying to find funds for students, the best place to start here is with the office for Student Financial Assistance<\/a>. They understand the many options that are available to students, the requirements necessary for each and how to apply.

\n Need a tutor for a class?\n <\/div>\n\n \n \n <\/path>\n <\/svg>\n <\/span>\n <\/button>\n\n \n
\n \nTutoring Services<\/a> provides peer tutors for individual or recurring appointments in a wide variety of subjects.<\/p>\n

The Center for Student Success can help you make an appointment with Tutoring Services or connect you with the Math Lab or the Writing Center. We\u2019ll make sure you find help and support for your coursework.
\n\n\n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n \n \n \n

\n Looking for assistance with campus activities and life outside of academics?\n <\/div>\n\n \n \n <\/path>\n <\/svg>\n <\/span>\n <\/button>\n\n \n
\n \nIf you are looking for assistance with campus life outside of academics, start you search at Student Affairs<\/a> (although A LOT of learning happens through their programs). They will help you maximize your education experience and prepare you for involvement in the larger community life beyond college.<\/p>\n

Student Affairs oversees like the Student Government Association, Campus Activities Board, Intercultural Affairs, campus clubs and organizations, and safety and conduct. They provide guidance for academic appeals and Student Conduct decisions appeals and also oversee Medical Withdrawals and University Excused Absences.<\/p>\n

The Center for Student Success has a purely academic focus, although we do work with Student Affairs when a student’s academic performance is affected by their personal circumstances.
\n\n\n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n \n \n \n

\n Is your mental health preventing you from reaching your full potential?\n <\/div>\n\n \n \n <\/path>\n <\/svg>\n <\/span>\n <\/button>\n\n \n
\n \nIf you are needing immediate help, please call 911 or reach out to the campus police to speak to our on-call counselor. If you are looking for mental health guidance, the Counseling Center<\/a> offers confidential and free professional therapeutic services (short-term counseling and psychotherapy, group therapy, workshops) that can assist students with mental health, academic, career, and personal needs. They offer psychiatric evaluation, medication management, walk-in clinic\/drop-in consultation, 24\/7 emergency\/crisis coverage, and evening drop-in hours with Counselors-in-Residence.<\/p>\n

The Counseling Center can also assist with outreach and consultation for Marshall students, organizations, student groups, faculty, and staff on mental-health-related topics. Counseling services can also assist in providing documentation for an Emotional Support Animal (ESA) if deemed necessary by each therapist’s professional discretion.<\/p>\n

The Center for Student Success cannot offer any services in counseling, nothing even close. None of that is for amateurs.

\n Have a disability and need assistance?\n <\/div>\n\n \n \n <\/path>\n <\/svg>\n <\/span>\n <\/button>\n\n \n
\n \nThe Office of Disability Services<\/a> provides the educational and physical accessibility support necessary for students to achieve their academic goals and promotes as much independence as possible on the part of the students with disabilities. They offer the following services to students who qualify: note-taking, test proctoring and accommodations, alternative format textbooks, liaison with faculty, advising, early registration, notetakers, readers, and interpreters.<\/p>\n

As with Counseling, we leave that to the experts, but we do have space in East Hall where students can find a safe, supportive and encouraging place to study or take their on-line classes.\n\n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n \n \n \n
