Interview Tips &#8211; Workshop with Marina Hunley Graham"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>What to Expect &#8220;In The Rooms&#8221;<\/h2>\n<p>This is a series of workshops and discussions with Marina Hunley Graham the Artistic Director of <strong>Unto These Hills<\/strong> in Cherokee, NC.\u00a0 <!--more-->Marina has been \u201cIn The (Audition) Rooms\u201d her entire professional life.\u00a0 As Artistic Director for a number of professional outdoor theatres she auditions annually at the Southeastern Conference (SETC), the Unified Professional Theatre Auditions (UPTA) in Memphis, the Institute for Outdoor Theatre (IOT and on-site auditions at her resident theatre.\u00a0 Marina will discuss ways of making the best impression for theatre companies that are auditioning at sets that are \u201cuniquely similar\u201d.\u00a0 Outdoor theatre, as a genre, presents unique challenges for the working professional.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h3>Sunday,\u00a0 Oct 8th<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>1:00pm &#8211; Room 224<br \/>\nAudition Sets \u2013 Making Them Work For You<br \/>\n<\/strong>General Cattle Calls; Screenings; Outdoor Theatre vs \u201cOthers\u201d; Differences\/Similarities between SETC\/UPTA\/IOTs and OnSite<strong><br \/>\n<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>3:00pm &#8211; Room 224<br \/>\n<strong>Audition Critique of MU Student Auditions<\/strong>:<br \/>\n<\/strong>With a focus on preparing students for screenings and Spring SETC.\u00a0 Students can audition and submit resume\u2019s and headshots for critique.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Monday,\u00a0 Oct 9<\/strong><strong>th<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>1:00pm &#8211; Room 224<br \/>\n<strong>Getting That First Production Job in Outdoor Theatre &#8211;\u00a0 <\/strong><\/strong>A general discussion of what Producers and Production Staff look for when considering hiring needs for outdoor theatre.\u00a0 Recommended approach strategies, student resume\u2019s and portfolios may be part of the discussion<strong><br \/>\n<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<div>\n\nALL\u00a0SESSIONS ARE OPEN TO\u00a0ALL\u00a0STUDENTS<\/p>\n<p>You do not have to audition or submit a resume\u2019 or attend any of the sessions!<\/p>\n<p>You can do ALL THREE if you wish!!<\/p>\n\n<\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h4>ADDITIONAL PERSONAL FEEDBACK AVAILABLE<\/h4>\n<p>In addition to the discussions, Marina has agreed to look at your work, your resume\u2019 and your headshot.\u00a0 This is timely opportunity to get feedback from an Artistic Director who is familiar with the staffing and casting needs of outdoor theatres.<\/p>\n<h4>BEFORE THE WORKSHOP PREPARATION<\/h4>\n<p><strong>PERFORMERS<\/strong> &#8211;\u00a0 All performance majors are invited and encouraged to submit a resume\u2019 and headshot for Marina to review.\u00a0 Interested people should put their resume and headsot in the boxes outside of Mike\u2019s office NO LATER THAN \u00a0Thursday Sept 28th.\u00a0 These will be sent to Marina prior to the workshop so she can look them over prior to giving feedback.\u00a0 If you want audition feedback and coaching, you are asked to for an AUDITION SLOT for Sunday Oct starting at 3pm.\u00a0 Marina will look at groups of 5 at a time.\u00a0 Audition length and type will be similar to what is expected at SETC and UPTA.\u00a0 (60 seconds straight\/90 seconds with singing).\u00a0 After each group she will stop and give general comments.\u00a0 She will also have some time to work with you on specific choices you might be able to incorporate.<\/p>\n<p>NOTE: We are trying to find a person who is willing to do live piano accompaniment for singing auditions.\u00a0 If we can\u2019t find one you can use your own recorded music.<\/p>\n<p><strong>PRODUCTION FOLKS<\/strong> \u2013 Everyone is invited to submit a copy of their Production Resume to Marina for comments.\u00a0 If you\u2019re interested, put a copy of your resume in the boxes outside of Mike\u2019s office NO LATER THAN Thursday Sept 28th.\u00a0 Marina will discuss resume\u2019s during the Production Session on Monday, Oct 9th at 1pm.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft\" src=\"http:\/\/www.marshall.edu\/theatre\/files\/2017\/09\/MarinaHeadshotColor_900x1359-199x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"199\" height=\"300\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>Marina Hunley Graham<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Artistic Director \u2013 <strong>Unto These Hills<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>A graduate of Marshall University, began her professional career as an actress.\u00a0 She was the Artistic Director for Theatre West Virginia for 16 years before accepting her current AD position with <em>Unto These Hills<\/em>.\u00a0 She has performed, directed, coached, taught and established three training schools for young actors, including the Mountainside Performing Arts School, located in Cherokee, NC. \u00a0 She co-directed the world premiere of <em>Rocket Boys the Musical<\/em> at Theatre West Virginia.\u00a0 Her favorite roles include Dolly in <em>Hello Dolly<\/em>, Adelaide in <em>Guys and Dolls, <\/em>Sue in <em>Sweet Sue<\/em> and Rizzo in <em>Grease.\u00a0 <\/em>She, her husband Tom and son Morgan reside in Cherokee, NC.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>What to Expect &#8220;In The Rooms&#8221;
