{"id":61,"date":"2011-04-07T12:53:02","date_gmt":"2011-04-07T12:53:02","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.marshall.edu\/uc\/?page_id=61"},"modified":"2018-04-28T21:26:54","modified_gmt":"2018-04-28T21:26:54","slug":"tutoring-tips","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.marshall.edu\/uc\/tutoring-services\/tutoring-tips\/","title":{"rendered":"Tutoring Tips"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"w-full xl:container mx-auto px-6\">Students should come to the Tutoring Center prepared to become active, independent learners.\u00a0 The following tips will help you, the student, reach your goal of academic success:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Bring all applicable class materials (textbooks, notes, handouts, calculators, etc.)<\/li>\n<li>Know your student number (901-XX-XXXX).<\/li>\n<li>Remember to turn off your cell phone before your tutoring session starts so that your tutoring session is productive and successful.<\/li>\n<li>Plan ahead \u2013 the tutor will be able to assist you more appropriately if you do not wait until the day of or day before the test or deadline.<\/li>\n<li>Come to your tutoring session prepared to work on something specific.<\/li>\n<li>Be sure to eat before you come to the Tutoring Center! (So you will be able to focus on your tutoring session).<\/li>\n<li>Get adequate sleep the night before.<\/li>\n<li>Think positively!<\/li>\n<li>Ask for help.\u00a0 Don\u2019t be shy; tutors are here to assist you.<\/li>\n<li>Make sure you\u2019ve made an attempt to complete your work yourself, and that you have at least a basic understanding of what you need help with.\u00a0 The tutor\u2019s job is to prepare you to do your work independently, not to do your work for you.<\/li>\n<li>Consider making an appointment \u2013 even though drop-in tutoring is available without an appointment being necessary, it may help to meet with the tutor in advance and plan your session(s).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Tutoring Services<br \/>\nSmith Communications Building Room 211<br \/>\nTel: 304-696-6622<\/p>\n<div>\n<p>Site Maintained by <a href=\"mailto:uc@marshall.edu?subject=Web%20Page%20Comments\">University College<\/a>.
