Faculty Achievement: Dr. Jeffrey Powell

Dr. Jeffrey Powell, professor of philosophy, is the editor of Heidegger and Language, a collection of essays that was published earlier this month by Indiana University Press.

The collected essays take a look at the role of language in the thought of Martin Heidegger, a German philosopher known for his existential exploration of the “question of being,” to reassess its significance for contemporary philosophy. The essays  consider such topics as Heidegger’s engagement with the Greeks, expression in language poetry, the language of art and politics, and the question of truth.  Powell is currently translating, with William McNeill, Heidegger’s History of Being.
