Men to “Walk a Mile in Her Shoes®” Tuesday, April 23

Marshall’s Women’s Center and CONTACT Rape Crisis Center will host “Walk a Mile in Her Shoes®: The International Men’s March to Stop Rape, Sexual Assault and Gender Violence” beginning at 1 p.m. Tuesday, April 23.  This event, which raises awareness of rape, sexual assault and gender violence, is held annually on the university’s Huntington campus.

Inspired by the saying that you can’t understand someone else’s experience until you’ve walked a mile in his or her shoes, men will literally walk one mile in women’s high-heeled shoes. Women and children are also welcome to march in solidarity.

In the past, men of Huntington and Marshall of all ages and backgrounds have participated – including athletes, professors, policemen, administrators, businessmen, and students. The walk will start on Buskirk Field (close to the Memorial Fountain), where CONTACT’s Spring-a-polooza also will be taking place. High heels will be provided at registration.
