Five people with Marshall University connections have been invited to attend President Barack Obama’s community discussion of prescription drug and heroin abuse in Charleston Wednesday, Oct. 21.
The invitees include Carrie Dean, a student in the Doctor of Psychology program; Dr. Mary (Mitzy) Payne, associate professor of neurology at the Joan C. Edwards School of Medicine; Amy Saunders, director of student health education programs; Dr. Joseph Shapiro, dean of the School of Medicine; and Kim White, counselor and interim director of military and veterans affairs.
“I think this is a great learning opportunity as a future psychologist,” Dean said. “I hope this meeting brings more awareness to the substance abuse problems that West Virginia residents face. Likewise, I hope we can work toward better resources for substance abuse and the mentally ill in West Virginia.”
