Marshall alumnus Brandon McCoy’s new play, “West by God,” which was premiered Sept. 27 at The Keegan Theatre in Washington, D.C., will be performed at the Joan C. Edwards Playhouse on the Huntington campus this week and next.
“West by God” will travel to West Virginia in the first-ever KeeganConnects tour, a new annual initiative designed to take original, provocative plays to small towns and communities nationwide. The play will run at Marshall University with performances Jan. 17, 18, 24 and 25 at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, Jan. 19, at 2 p.m.
About the play and playwright: “West by God” is a story about home. In a small town in the Appalachia region of West Virginia, two different families grapple with issues of grief and love, memory and identity, and with the distance and time that both unite and divide generations. “West by God” is a funny, heartwarming, and gut-wrenchingly honest examination of the divide between urban and rural America, and the kinds of prejudice and intolerance too often left unchallenged in our society.
McCoy is a professional actor, director, playwright, and educator based in Washington, D.C., and a proud graduate of Marshall’s School of Theatre. His work has been featured at numerous companies including Ford’s Theatre, The Kennedy Center, Round House Theatre, Theatre J, Imagination Stage, Rep Stage, Theatre Alliance, the Keegan Theatre and many more. He has written four full-length plays and one musical.
