(WMUL-FM) \u2014 <\/span><span style=\"\">Marshall\u2019s Student Research and Creativity Symposium gave students the opportunity to showcase their talents and hard work to an audience.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.marshall.edu\/wmul\/files\/photo-2.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-3661 size-medium alignright\" src=\"http:\/\/www.marshall.edu\/wmul\/files\/photo-2-225x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"225\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.marshall.edu\/wmul\/files\/photo-2-225x300.jpg 225w, https:\/\/www.marshall.edu\/wmul\/files\/photo-2-768x1024.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.marshall.edu\/wmul\/files\/photo-2.jpg 1200w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 225px) 100vw, 225px\" \/><\/a> The event, which was on April 2 at the Brad D. Smith Center for Business and Innovation and April 3 at the Memorial Student Center, helped \u201ccontribute to the continuing growth of Marshall as a R-2 research university,\u201d according to the Marshall University Events Calendar. Also, this event also demonstrates \u201chow our students\u2019 accomplishments can contribute to the economy and quality of life of our intellectual and business community,\u201d the listing continued.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"\">Students presented many projects focusing on scientific research, like production of carbon nanotubes, benefits of continuous glucose monitoring and railway crack detection using machine learning, and on the arts and popular culture, like exploring expression through multimedia artwork, using AI in journalism and examining hate crime in media.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.marshall.edu\/wmul\/files\/photo-3.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-3662 size-medium alignleft\" src=\"http:\/\/www.marshall.edu\/wmul\/files\/photo-3-225x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"225\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.marshall.edu\/wmul\/files\/photo-3-225x300.jpg 225w, https:\/\/www.marshall.edu\/wmul\/files\/photo-3-768x1024.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.marshall.edu\/wmul\/files\/photo-3.jpg 1200w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 225px) 100vw, 225px\" \/><\/a>In the project \u201cFluid Impressions: Exploring Expression Through Multimedia Artwork\u201d, Isa McMullen wanted to show uncomfortability to the viewer and examine the human body. \u201cSpending many of my formative years in the Deep South and Appalachia introduced curiosity about the way religion and censorship connect with modernity, specifically queer bodies,\u201d McMullen\u2019s abstract said.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"\">The project \u201cWhat do you like to eat?\u201d explores the concept of ecofeminism, a political and intellectual<a href=\"https:\/\/www.marshall.edu\/wmul\/files\/photo-4.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-3663 size-medium alignright\" src=\"http:\/\/www.marshall.edu\/wmul\/files\/photo-4-225x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"225\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.marshall.edu\/wmul\/files\/photo-4-225x300.jpg 225w, https:\/\/www.marshall.edu\/wmul\/files\/photo-4-768x1024.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.marshall.edu\/wmul\/files\/photo-4.jpg 1200w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 225px) 100vw, 225px\" \/><\/a> movement that links the oppression of women and the degradation of the environment to the patriarchy, and naturalism relating to politics, culture and author Ryann Province\u2019s own experiences.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"\">In her abstract, she spoke about how this topic has always fascinated her. \u201cThe notion of \u2018naturalism\u2019 as it relates to women, feminism, gender studies and, in some ways, queer theory is of great intrigue to me, especially as a queer woman,\u201d Province said.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"\">The project \u201cExamining Hate Crimes in Media: The Murder of Ahmaud Arbery\u201d analyzes different reports after the murder of Ahmaud Arbery. \u201cThis research is a content analysis that examined media reports following the murder of Ahmaud Arbery by pulling articles in the local newspaper, The Brunswick News,\u201d author Ben McElroy said in his abstract. <\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Jordan Ooten April 7th, 2025 HUNTINGTON, W.Va.
