(WMUL-FM) \u2014\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">The Well-Read and Undead Book Club is held monthly via a Teams meeting and is a place for both students and staff alike to come together to discuss the book of the month and anything book related.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559740&quot;:360}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Meghan Sexton-Harness, a research specialist at Drinko Library and founder of the book club, chooses the books each month through members\u2019 recommendations and aims to keep the club environment a safe space for all members. <\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559740&quot;:360}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">&#8220;I have a running list of suggestions, and then once a month I will send out a Google form and it has a link to the book, t<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">he synopsis, I try to get trigger warnings in there, but that&#8217;s not a perfect because not all books have that information available,&#8221; she said. &#8220;I never want somebody t<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">o vote for a book, and then it have something traumatic for them and they feel like they just can&#8217;t get into it.&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\"> &#8220;&#8216;Cause we&#8217;re a book club, b<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">ut so many weeks, like either before or a little after we&#8217;ve had our book conversation, w<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">e&#8217;ll just vent and it&#8217;s so nice to have that space to just be like, &#8216;you know what? Everything&#8217;s not OK,'&#8221;<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\"> Sexton-Harness said.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW225643335 BCX0\">Dr. <\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW225643335 BCX0\">Missy Reed, a professor from the College of Education<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW225643335 BCX0\"> and book club participant,<\/span> <span class=\"NormalTextRun ContextualSpellingAndGrammarErrorV2Themed SCXW225643335 BCX0\">speaks<\/span> <span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW225643335 BCX0\">the importance of students finding <\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW225643335 BCX0\">time for activities they enjoy<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW225643335 BCX0\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Students I know feel like if they&#8217;re awake, they need to be w<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">orking on something for class, but you know you need to do a little self-care and every now and then,&#8221; Reed said. &#8220;E<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">ven if you can just read whatever you like to do for fun, that&#8217;s relaxing, 20 or 30 minutes even. <\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">We would love to have students.&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW79916632 BCX0\">Dr. Roxanne <\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW79916632 BCX0\">Aftanas<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW79916632 BCX0\">, an associate professor in English at Marshall and another book club participant, <\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW79916632 BCX0\">speaks on how the Well-Read and Undead book club has <\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW79916632 BCX0\">expanded her &#8216;to be read&#8217; list.<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW79916632 BCX0\"> \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">I just use people for their book recommendations,&#8221; she said. &#8220;This is the one that I consistently like o<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">ur book recommendations and then can go down a rabbit hole.&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">&#8220;If we read one book by an author then I&#8217;m often like, &#8216;oh, what else would I like from them?&#8217; And then I end up reading other things, that does not always happen i<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">n other book clubs,&#8221; she continued.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>For more information, students can follow their Instagram page @well.read.and.undead.book.club or <a href=\"https:\/\/libguides.marshall.edu\/DrinkoBookClub\">find them on Libguides to join the mailing list.\u00a0<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Eden Norris April 30, 2025 HUNTINGTON, W.Va.
