(WMUL-FM) \u2014 <\/span><span style=\"\">Marshall University\u2019s Day of Giving, also known as 1,837 Minutes for Marshall, allowed students, faculty, supporters and Marshall alumni to give donations to certain programs.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"\">The day, which lasted from 12 p.m. on April 23 to 6:37 p.m. on April 24, had donations coming in from all over the country, with $263,409 raised.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"\">The event\u2019s namesake honors the year that Marshall was founded. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"\">The goal of this event is to \u201craise critical funding and engage our community to advance the mission of Marshall,\u201d according to the 1,837 Minutes for Marshall website.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"\">The money from these donations will help go to scholarships, resources and research.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"\">\u201cYou decide where your dollars make an impact at Marshall,\u201d the website said. \u201cWhether your heart is in the arts, research labs, supporting students or investing in a specific school, the choice is yours. Every gift makes an impact, giving more students access to a world-class education, investing in innovation and connecting our community.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"\">West Virginia made the most donations with 377 gifts. Ohio and Maryland were second and third, with 58 and 31 gifts respectively.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"\">Some of the participating groups were the College of Liberal Arts, the Joan C. Edwards School of Medicine, the School of Pharmacy, the College of Arts and Media and the Marshall University Alumni Association.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"\">There were lots of challenges during the virtual event, like the Marshall University Alumni Association Challenge, Lunch Break Challenge, Rush Hour Challenge and Herd in the USA Challenge.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"\">There was also a challenge for the ambassadors of the event, in which whoever has the most donors wins a bag of Marshall merchandise.
