Va. (WMUL-FM) — The Marshall Thundering Herd Women’s Golf Team competed at the Butler Invitational over the weekend.

Leading the way for the Herd was junior Madison Borders finishing in the top 5 after every round and finished the week with 10 birdies. Head coach Brooke Burkhammer says that she has been impressed with Borders’ development going back to last season.

“She played great,” Burkhammer said. “She’s been working really hard. Even in the spring of last year, this past year, she was trending in the right direction and posting some good scores for us and playing solid golf. So, I’m glad that it’s kind of moved over to this year. And I’m just really proud of her.”

The Thundering Herd finished fourth overall as a team in the invitational.

“There were some great teams,” Burkhammer said. “Butler’s a great team, Dayton, Loyola Belmont. I mean, they’ve got tradition of having really good golf teams. So, just being able to compete against the, maybe same people, in golf, it’s pretty common where you might not see some of the same teams at every tournament. You might see them only once a year. So, we might not see those teams again. But anytime you can tee it up and compete against no matter who it is, I feel as if you’re going to get better.”

Another strong performance out of the Thundering Herd was junior and Milton, W. Va. native, Taylor Sargent, who earned a top 25 performance as an individual.

“I thought she played really well in that first day, those 36 holes. Posting 72, 73. She’s been working really hard. I know she didn’t play as well as she wanted in that final round, but you know, her game is trending in the right direction. I’m excited to kind of see what the future holds for her. Overall, she’s just been playing solid golf.”

Marshall Women’s Golf returns to action on Monday at the Pirates Collegiate Classic hosted by East Carolina University in Greenville, N.C.

Marshall Women’s Golf Recap By Ben Anderson, FM88 Sports’ Director Oct. 2, 2025 HUNTINGTON, W.
