Marshall Cross Country Recap

\nHUNTINGTON, W. Va. (WMUL-FM) \u2014\u00a0Marshall Cross Country competed in its final tune-up before the Sun Belt Conference Championships with the Falcon Invitational at Bowling Green University.<\/p>\n
Marshall, for the second straight week, had a new leader on the women\u2019s side with senior Hannah Wyler running the 6K with a time of 22:01. Coach Caleb Bowen said that he is proud of the way that numerous runners have taken on the number one role throughout the season.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019m very excited to see them step up and do pretty well,\u201d Bowen said. \u201cWe have like three number one girls, which is what you want in a team, with Hannah Toth, Hannah Wyler, and Destiny (Berryman). It was really fun to see Asha (Bora) step up and throw her name in the mix as well.\u201d<\/p>\n
Leading the way for the men\u2019s team was junior Brady Dawkins, with an 8k time of 25:36. Dawkins said that he was pleased with the way he handled the race.<\/p>\n
\u201cBowling Green\u2019s a little bit of a longer course,\u201d Dawkins said. \u201cI was kind of worried how that would go, especially last year. It was kind of a slow day, but I went out there and put myself in a good position to compete. Felt good, felt strong the throughout the whole thing, so I just kept it rolling, finished strong.\u201d<\/p>\n
The Thundering Herd now shifts its focus over to the Sun Belt Conference Championships on Oct. 31. Coach Bowen said that it\u2019s important for both teams to stay together as a pack throughout the race.<\/p>\n
\u201cThat\u2019s the way whatever team wins,\u201d Bowen said. \u201cThat\u2019s the way they\u2019re going to win. You just have to pack up and then run as close to the front as possible, which we can do. Both sides, men and women, have done a good job of it this year.\u201d<\/p>\n
Dawkins said that the Herd has been focused on trying to run in tighter packs.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe try to do our little workouts grouped together,\u201d Dawkins said. \u201cI think we\u2019ve done pretty well on that. Just yesterday we did a workout. We took turns leading, making sure that we were all grouped together. Just learning to work off each other is definitely important.\u201d<\/p>\n
